Non-alcoholic lager contains the same amount of or more carbohydrates than regular beer, so drinking it makes no difference. Like beer, sweet wines (e.g. port), liqueurs, etc. contain carbohydrates. Dry wines and distilled liquors like whisky, gin, brandy, rum etc. contain no carbohydrates but plenty of empty calories (supplied by the alcohol). Alcohol LOWERS blood sugar, so when drinking two or more drinks of whisky etc. it's wise to eat some carb-containing snacks while imbibing. If you inject a long-acting insulin like NPH before bedtime, use a slightly smaller dose than usual even if your blood-sugar level is normal. An insulin reaction while asleep can be dangerous and is at least very unpleasant.
