Major dislike is my memory loss issues
I am a type 2 diabetic and have been taking medication since 2007. I also suffer from Memory issues which my GP was not interested in. My memory has become an issue over the past 4 years and my GP gave me some stupid test which involved her writing a word on a piece of paper that I then had to write down on another piece of paper. If you get 4 right out of 5 you have no memory issues!!

I tried to explain that it was not an instant memory loss but something like 5 minutes but they were not interested even though I expressed concern having set fire to the grille pan forgetting that I was cooking something (4 times now).

I went direct to the Memory clinic at the hospital and spoke to the staff there who were very helpful but couldn't help me directly as they need a referral from the doctor before they can help you. If your lucky they will suggest that you write to your GP and insist on having a review with the specialist. There is also a PALS link to your Hospital that you can email for assistance.

I managed to get through the red tape and had a brain scan and they found that I have vascular dementia. When you are told this its frightening and you think its the end of the world but after a few days you accept that you knew you had a problem. I have appointments now with the memory clinic to see how they can help me with new medication.

Part of this is to exercise everyday, I walk 1 hour daily and the diabetic nurse has said that if my diabetic control continues to improve I can stop the glicazide which damages your kidneys.

Don't give up!!

Hello Robert.
I might be missing something here, but what has dentistry to do with visayas post about memory?? Visayas had been let down badly by his GP, and had the sense to take appropriate action to get his health back on track, which he should be applauded for. It is very true that dental hygiene is of importance to us, but I do think you would be better posting a new thread

idiots, bullies, politicians, David Cameron, Nick Clegg, Ian Duncan smith, racist, homophobes, people unwilling to learn, to tolerate, to listen and in turn be listened too. animal abuser's and people who just don't think about what they say and how it can or could affect the people around them.
i think it's great you took the initiative and went out to get your answer's. far too often people take what there G.P's say s gospel and don't think to challenge their advice or decisions.

GP Doctors are Doctors yes but they are not infallible. you have the right to a second opinion and should not be made to feel like a right tit for asking for one.

Also GP's I have found can be either helpful or condescending muppets who think they are dealing with nothing more than a hypochondriac (i got this when i was a kid, I was leaving said GP's surgery with my mum when i had a long fit outside and almost was run over by a car in the car park (Mum had popped back in to grab my asma prescription so wasn't there to stop me, i didn't even remember leaving the curb). I came out with a concussion and the FANTASTIC story about Mum pinning the Doctor to the wall and asking him for his option now, ok there was no actual pinning but I'm told she brought an epic smack down on him)

you know your body for the most part if something doesn't feel right, go with that feeling, push the issue's until you have found your answer's and never think for one minute that you fussing over nothing because sometimes it isn't nothing.
