Hi All.

Ok, so i have T1, a good job, good lifestyle and am not a waster.....

I was diagnosed only 5 months ago, and still learning to adapt.

I smoke cannabis, maybe 3-4 times a week, maybe a bit more on social occasions. i go to the gym 4 times a week and dont really drink too much.

Apart from struggling with " the munchies" now and again, is there any other way that it can have a direct effect on the diabetes?

Cheers guys!

You'll get many remarks on this, some partake and say it helps lower BG, others totally against it. Up to you really. I don't use it but I have done in my youth ! Live and let live is my motto !

Taken from the Diabetes.co.uk page on Cannabis:

A research paper published by the American Alliance for Medical Cannabis (AAMC) suggested that cannabis can help:
  • Stabilise blood sugars - a large body of anecdotal evidence is building among diabetics to support this.
  • Suppress some of the arterial inflammation commonly experienced by diabetics, which can lead to cardiovascular disease
  • Prevent nerve inflammation and ease the pain of neuropathy - the most common complication of diabetes - by stimulating receptors in the body and brain.
  • Lower blood pressure over time, which can help reduce the risk of heart disease and other diabetes complications
  • Keep blood vessels open and improve circulation.
  • Relieve muscle cramps and the pain of gastrointestinal (GI) disorders
  • Be used to make topical creams to relieve neuropathic pain and tingling in hands and feet

Too numerous to mention
Apart from the usual anti-smoking stuff, I don't think a few joints will do you any harm, I do it at the weekend and enjoy it. Are we to give up everything? No Way!

idiots, bullies, politicians, David Cameron, Nick Clegg, Ian Duncan smith, racist, homophobes, people unwilling to learn, to tolerate, to listen and in turn be listened too. animal abuser's and people who just don't think about what they say and how it can or could affect the people around them.

I used to smoke it, not heavily, I was a total lightweight. I started when I was 19, stopped when I was around 24/25, I don't drink, or smoke, or smoke hash anymore. I got very ill, nearly died, tried to have a ciggie and was violently sick, thought it was as good a time as any to give it all up!

My Mum knew i smoked, she was very NOT happy about it but she let me. I smoked my friends home grown stuff round her's. Mum knew I was somewhere safe, literally 12 door down from where we lived.

I asked her about it a few years later why she left me too it. she said she knew me, she understood why I was smoking it and she had faith I would kick the habit when i needed to. she didn't want to push me away and she wanted to keep a close eye on me, if I had to hide it she would worry more than she was. (thou she did say if it had gotten out of hand she'd have me sectioned and dragged off to get me clean)

I had NO IDEA whatsoever that it could be used to help lower your BP! thats interesting, I wonder WHY it lowers your BP? could it possibly be used in some other form than hash to help with lowering your BP? makes you wonder.

I tried it for the first time today, in biscuits as I'm a non smoker, I was told it will help with my foot neuropathy, & breast mastopathy I'm going to keep trying it for 3 months and see how I feel after that, here hoping as the pain is unbearable at times
