I was nearly there......

then we decided to move the goalposts.

Yep, I've been back to my dietician, to discuss a diet for weight maintenance and a bit more muscle building, but we've decided to push it for another 1/2 stone loss first.

So, it was about 800 to 1200 calories to start, then upped in the cold, to 1200 to 1600, then we were planning to increase the calories for keeping the weight stable, but just decided to give it another month.
I lost 5lb over the last 4 weeks, so would have been at my target in a couple of weeks.

(That includes a massive night off for a family occasion this week, eating, drinking, (gave up alcohol for February).

As to the diet though, I've got used to the amount, which was a Mediterranean type diet, and a mix of carbs, protein, low fats though.
Fresh food. a lot of veg, any freshly prepared. No processed food.
But always to my meter, and food/carbs adjusted accordingly.

So now I need to make up the calories by eating more. I am tempted to put a bit more olive oil in, dietician suggests more low fat cheese, and a bit more protein for the muscle build. And milk, yoghurt, for calcium. (Impressed her with the yoghurt maker on that score)
So maybe 1/3, 1/3, 1/3, so 800 calories from 200g of carbs, 800 calories from 200g of protein, and then I need 800 calories from 100g of (mainly unsaturated) fat. (and the odd few calories from a glass or two of wine or scotch). I'm keeping the portion control for life though, and keeping the scales every day. And targeting the cholesterol figures now.
The nhs team here have a specialist diabetes dietician on board, so even though my personal dietician is primarily targeting weight loss, and a healthy lifestyle, they're all on board.

My bs has decreased dramatically from diagnosis, I spent most of summer taking the meds intermittently, and have given up the morning Januvia, (unless I plan to pig out in the day), but think I'll make an effort to take the metformin regularly.

Overall it's worked well, it's took me nearly a year, but it's also been a true lifestyle change, fully supported by the nhs, with referrals for an nhs gym, nhs dietician, meter, test strips, unlimited bloods,
And if you saw what I used to eat, if I can do, anyone can!
So hang in there for the long haul, as it's worth it in the end.
Well done Douglas keep up the good work

I'm impressed by your excellent results and your tenacity at sticking to your new lifestyle. It's inspiring for us newbies, so thanks. I just hope I can stay the course over time as well.
