I'm sitting here on a cold Sunday afternoon and I'm sooooooo bored. I need to find myself some kind of hobby. I dont have alot of spare cash. I'm a single female so I dont feel safe going out walking alone. I'm in a fairly rural area and live in a small flat.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Are you arty/crafty?

Do you like reading or films? Music?

Is there anything you have always wanted to learn?

I did once attempt to learn guitar but didnt have the patience. I used to do cross stitch but again no longer have the patience or wall space. Ive tried knitting....scarves only. I cant draw. Love films but struggle to not do something else whilst watching, unless im at the cinema.

I know you like cats How about knitting some blankets for cat rescue while watching something good on TV or listening to audio books or music. Places like Wood Green are always looking for things.

Or making greetings card to sell for a cat charity?
Do you fancy some voluntary work? Age Concern are in need of volunteers to be companions to the elderly. My friend takes one elderly lady shopping or to a cafe

Tour guides are often volunteers. DO you live near anywhere interesting? Arts Centres ushers get to see things for free.

If you ever fancy picking up your guitar again, there is a really good tutor on YouTube called Marty Schwartz. His channel is called martyzsongs . His instructions are very easy to follow. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

Rudeness, tv soaps.
Do some voluntary work in your community, the possibilities are endless and very worthwhile and good for your health! :)

Join your GP's Patient Participation Group... I'm Chairperson of mine, and boy it keeps me busy!!!

Consider joining 'meetup! Groups in your area... They are all over the country and brilliant.

U3A brilliant if over 50ish... They have so many things going on, I couldn't even manage a 1/10th of what these groups do. I do antiques in my local group. £12.50 a year for ours and a £1 a meeting...

All advertised on internet...

Well I did start some knitting yesterday, the young cat thought it was a great game to play with the needle as I tried to carry on knitting. :wacky:

I have today been thinking about candle making. I buy loads of scented candles, some very expensive. So I was thinking maybe I could practice making my own and then maybe if I get good sell some? I'll look into costings.

idiots, bullies, politicians, David Cameron, Nick Clegg, Ian Duncan smith, racist, homophobes, people unwilling to learn, to tolerate, to listen and in turn be listened too. animal abuser's and people who just don't think about what they say and how it can or could affect the people around them.
hobbys are great ways to pass the time :) I have far too many than is most likely healthy.

You said you can knit, have you ever thought of taking up crochet? it's fast and there are many different free patterns online and thats just for the blankets :) it can also be pretty mindless so it's the sort of thing you can do while watching a film on TV or DVD if you're doing a repetitive pattern :)

drawing, painting, reading are I think some of the easier and basic hobby's. Music is a good way to pass the time (I play violin, badly but I like torchering my cats with it lol) and puzzles or puzzle books. (you can make your own puzzles to if you like) baking is fun. writing is fun too. you can write about anything you like, you can even venture into the world of fan-fiction is your feeling adventurous, though I suggest you stay in the shallow end of THAT pool.

local voluntary work is a good way of getting out of the house, helping the elderly in your local area is also pretty cool. gardening, indoor or outdoor is a good way to keep occupied. if you have access to any kind of camera, photography is also fun and you can get some really cool effects on the computer with free photo programs you can download of the net.

thats all I can think of off the top of my head :)

some of my hobbys run to comic books, graphic novels, manga and anime as well as most thing's sci-fi, it keeps me out of trouble mostly.

You can knit squares too to make blankets and sew them together, it helps if you can get oddments or little balls of wool.

All great ideas, thanks.

I have decided my main problem is I need a social life. My money situation is about to improve greatly so once some debts have gone Im going to join a local Rock choir and see how that goes. I might also consider some evening groups or classes, just to get out and meet new people.

Socialising is good.

I always had my dogs previously to meet people, but having moved (again) and all my dogs have passed on, I had to find new friends.

There is an online site called meetup all over the country for anybody doing anything! You just type in your area and intersts and there are loads of groups of people that meetup....everything from poetry, antiques, pubs etc... (Free for 3 months) and cheap after that.

Without having dogs, i joined up to my Patients Participation Group at my GP, and boy, is that intersting and I'm so involved with improving Patients experiences and the Practices standards, and costs nothing.
I joined my local U3A -£12.50 a year and again, you can join groous within U3A that you are intersted in.. From scrabble, books, films, antiques and so much more.

Our locals have crib nights, and then i also joined an uoholstery club and am inundated with projects from people I know. (This not a council education course) just classes of 6 people so we get a good amount of time with our tutor.

On top of these hobbies, the friendships i have gained are fantastic so I spend quite a lot of time with these friends too.

Its these hobbies that have made me feel so good with no depression (along with D3 tablets).

I totally relaxed my deliberations over my pump and previously injections and got my best control ever.

Its amazing just how good my levels are and how my depression that was very severe at times has absolutely disappeared.

I have some active hobbies, some creative hobbies and some learning hobbie, cycling, walking, boat building, gardening, cooking, history, genealogy and languages.

Most of the time is spent doing research on the internet. Even a trip to see an old church, such as this one at Escombe, the oldest Anglo Saxon church in England which is still intact, needs some research. It was built at the end of the 600s using stone robbed from the old roman fort at Binchester, also worth a visit

Cooking, learning how to cook, getting recipes etc is made much easier on the internet. Youtube is great for showing you how to do many things. It is also a very useful hobby for people with diabetes.

Cycle routes and walking routes are everywhere on the internet: http://www.yorkshire.com/what-to-do/outdoors/onwheels/leisure-and-road-cycling http://www.walkingenglishman.com

I even learned boat building via the internet, : http://www.makeacanoe.com

I even used to do historical reenactment and had to learn to sew and make the garments, lots of men like leatherworking and lots of the women like tablet weaving. http://www.shelaghlewins.com/tablet_weaving/TW01/TW01.htm

The main thing is to have a go and, if you don't take to it, try something else.
