Sexual performance

Ok, please don't take this as a bragging post, but I have a serious question about the effect of diabetes, metformin and blood sugar levels on sexual performance, specifically how long it takes for anything to happen.

I don't have a problem getting it up or keeping it up, but recently I have noticed I can go for much longer than I could before. I am currently on 1500mg metformin and since I started hone monitoring, apart from first thing in the morning, my levels sit between 5.7 and 6.6 on average, there are the occasional spikes where I have not eaten too well but on the whole I have been pleased with my levels.

Is this to be expected or is this something I should speak to the doc about? I should add that I have not noticed any issues with decreased sensation.

I have heard that metformin can help with sexual dysfunction so perhaps it may enhance performance a little too ? Not sure but I'm off to see the doc for a prescription lol !

Lol, I have never had a problem in this area and therefore have never used anything like Viagra to make a comparison to, however i did read a relatively recent article which did suggest metformin could have a similar effect for those with sexual dysfunction. Another article did suggest high and low blood sugar levels could impact on the time taken to achieve ejaculation and it is this last bit that got me concerned even though I have none of the other symptoms associated with dysfunction.

Knowing others Won't learn from my mistakes, Being TERMINALLY ILL !
I'm female so don't have a penis but when I used to take Metformin my sex drive disappeared.

Your improved readings might be the reason rather than the metformin itself but I doubt the doctor would find cause for concern , so just enjoy it,

Wish my ED was that simple,

I think this could also have something to do with hydration. When blood sugars are high, you would be a bit more dehydrated so this could affect performance in a couple of ways. When blood sugars are within range, you go to the loo less and your body is not dehydrated which will affect performance. i suppose using metformin may just add to your stamina.... lol

Ok, well things have now progressed a little, or perhaps regressed is the right term in the sense that it has now got to the point that nothing happens at all no matter how long i go for and i am starting to get worried. I have been to the docs and i came off Metformin for two weeks and there was no improvement. I have also noticed that i do not stay hard long enough and when i am, as above, nothing happens.

I have been prescribed Sildenafil, which helps with the hardness issue but still doesn't resolve the other problem of being completely and utterly unable to orgasm. Doc did a hormone check and that all came back ok, but as i have been told recently, my blood pressure is high and i have been put on medication to bring that down. Whilst i am overweight, my weight has not changed in the last couple of years so a change in weight is not the cause.

I can only assume that this may be caused by some form of nerve damage as a result of the period in which my BG levels were not controlled but the doc has not even suggested this and seems to think this is all down to a combination of my BP, weight and diabetes.

I have to add that whilst my mental willingness is still there, i don't get the physical desire i once had if that makes sense, no spontaneous erections or hornyness. I know i want to but visual and other stimuli no longer get me aroused so i have to assume there is perhaps something else that might be affecting me.

Have any other type 2 experienced this because i would like to think there is some sort of hope at the end of this tunnel if you will excuse the pun.

Soupladle, when it comes to ED type of stuff you will be amazed as to how complicated the sexual cycle becomes and how much psychology has an effect on the "performance"

I am type 2 and have had some of the symptoms you are presenting. The hard part is working out what is the cause. You have to ask your self some questions. Do you have the "morning glory" and does it work OK with mono sex (masturbation)? if so its probably got something to do with performance anxiety or a psychological root cause. Apparently this is far more common than often presumed.

Try not to be bashful and speak with your GP get a referral to a specialist if needed but get help.

Good luck matey

I would tell the Dr about any changes, delayed ejac could be the start of something. ask for a urologist if concerned.

A heck of a lot of these EDs are in the head (no pun intended). I do wonder if a new partner might just be the answer.
