Rudeness, tv soaps.
This might sound completely stupid but how can one lose weight when they are unable to exercise due to other medical conditions? There must be other people in the same position, would love to swap idea's! x

Any weight loss starts in the kitchen, what ever way you choose, portion control, low carb, calorie control etc. I was very large man last year and went the low carb route and had some great results with weigh loss and bs levels. I lost about 2 stone before I was comfortable in trying any exercise which was walking at first, then moved upto jogging/staggering. So simply put exercise helps but the main one is diet, im now 6 stone lighter.
Hope this helps in some way.

I do the walking dvd by Leslie Sansome, walking in my own home is easy, you can do as little or as much as you like.
Then I throw in some kettebells, I used to use heavier bells but bought one at 1kg weight. As you get older (in my case) if you don't use it...
I find that you lose your fitness quicker as you age.
I also have a stationary bike and use you tube for tabata instructions. The thing is to keep at it, little and often rather than none at all.

I am interested in this topic as well because I have arthritis in both my feet so my specialist has told me not to use walking as exercise. I also have other medical conditions that make aerobic exercises difficult. I get fed up of people thinking I am just lazy but I really am at a loss. I need to lose a stone in weight .

On you tube there are exercise's where you just sit and use light weights, I think just moving is the thing. The Leslie Sansome walking dvd is actually walking on the spot, and you don't have to do all of it.
To be honest I have no excuse I really am lazy, so I find the dvd easy. Also Callenetics was something I used to do, its great for getting the body where it used to be. That dvd is very small movements, that might be worth a go.

Pez is right. The best way to lose weight is to diet properly. We all know how to do this, doing it is the hard bit. Cut down on the carbs and portion sizes, and cut out sugar, pastries and alcohol. The weight will come off.

Yes, whilst exercise is a great help it's diet which is the main factor in weight loss. This means setting limits on your carb intake that starts the process of weight reduction. It does mean a complete review of your food and ignoring most products on the supermarket shelves. Look at packaging labels and understand what foods do what

i agree with Pez completely, you can sit in a chair all day and lose weight, your burn calories while you sleep, I'm not saying exercise is bad, but diet is far more important for weight loss, to impact weight loss i think exercise has to be extreme anyway, i can't see walking helping anyone lose weight, sure its great but only for general fitness (opinion)

Diet is what helps but i know what u mean, i suffer from pain every day and some days cant leave the house so exercise is difficult, through low carbs and walking i lost 6 stone 5 years ago but i have put 2 stone bk on due to being immobile a lot, i go to hydrotherapy so maybe try some low exercise at your local pool, however much pain and exhaustion i have i try walking round the house with my stick as much as possible, also just doing some gentle exercise does help i guess

If you can't exercise then as others have said, you need to reduce the amount of calories consumed in order to lose weight. To do that you need to know your base metabolic rate (BMR) which is the amount of calories you would burn if you just sat still all day. This amount varies depending on gender, weight and age and a quick search of the internet will yield any number of BMR calculators. It's likely they'll all show slightly different results but they should be pretty close to one and other. To lose weight then you just need to eat fewer calories than your BMR.

Not far or fast enough for it to make any difference. But I do use an exercise bike. But again I have trouble breathing so not very fast
