Does anyone have a small handy sized meter I have a freestyle optimum neo but I'm looking for something smaller as it is a bit big in school
Anything would be helpful

Hello,

You said 'anything'. And most of the time, I don't use a meter at all. (I only unfailingly use a meter first thing in the morning and last thing at night.)

I mostly use visually read strips. They come in a small pot.

And if (like me) you are so inclined, you can cut them with a good pair of scissors to make them last longer.

There are two kinds, which are both excellent: Betachek Visual and Glucoflex-R. (You may find only the latter currently available from the chemist.)

http://www.betachek.com/uk/

I find them to be very accurate for anything below 8mmol/l.

The lower the blood sugar, the more precise I find the reading to be.

You're very welcome.

Also, since you like stuff to be compact, then if you can do without the spring-loaded gadget to get the blood sample, and are prepared to simply jab yourself gently with the bare lancet, then you can pop your lancet (plus a spare, though I always use them more than once) into the small pot of strips.

The lancets I use have a little plastic plug to stick on the end.

Hi @Irish_farmer - we're actually doing a giveaway right now for the Contour NEXT USB. These meters are pretty darn small and might be just what you're looking for. Here's the link for a free one: http://bit.ly/ContourNextUSB

The smallest meter I've used to date is the Accu-Chek Aviva Nano.

What about the iBG star? Those are tiny and you don't necessarily need an iPhone to use it.

Aviva nano is nice and small as is the bayer contour USB

The onetouch verio iq is a tiny bit larger but looks almost like an ipod

The ibgstar is the smallest of meters but needs an iphone, and also needs a lightning adapter the the iphone 5

You don't need the iPhone to use the monitor, I had one and my phone was damaged so it wouldn't connect and it worked perfectly well without having to plug it in. You do have to store your readings elsewhere though I think.

I think the meter store the last 100 or so readings so yes for daily use you can use it without an iphone, but if you want the full experience then an iphone would be needed to download the readings

But it is certainly small!

I might buy the Contour NEXT USB as it seems to be a good all round meter
I have heard of these being inaccurate does anyone use one? If so please tell me what you think of it

I don't use the Contour meters now but did use the Contour USB and the Contour Next USB before my present meter, I can't say I noticed them being inaccurate and its no worse than any other meter, overall it's a fantastic meter and the convenience of plugging it straight into the USB port is a big plus IMHO.

I have 3 or 4 bayer Meters and all are fine

The USB can also double up as a small memory stick. It also carries a copy of glucofacts onboard
