Hi, my names Paul, i'm a 41 year old male from Rugby in Warwickshire and I am as confused as i'm going to get since being diagnosed with type 2 last September.
For my information background, where can I start (Why is this like a first date ?)

I'm a Parts Manager for a car dealership, I have 6 pets, which consist of 1 pooch, 2 rabbits and 3 ducks, yes you read right !!
I have one son, who turns 13 soon and I live with my partner Lisa of 4 years.
I love camping, used to go loads as a kid, bought a tent 5 years ago and have still got to get it out the bag, but I will. I also like canal holidays.
I'm a car nut, like classics and Saabs, I am also an avid sketcher, specialising in caricatures.
Apart from a day trip to France back in 1982, I have never been abroad, possibly because the answer to the next question of are you wealthy, is 'No'

So, diabetes. Sly little ****** that it is, has really confuddled me. A lot to take on board to start with as I am sure the majority of you can relate to. My doctor, didn't really fill me with confidence, stating to me that I would attend a clinic at the local hospital to understand the disease. Not happened in the now 7 months since being diagnosed.
Told to eat foods with high carbs with low sugars that also has a low saturate from the fat content. Have tried all and sundry and weight fluctuates like a yoyo, but legs feel like they're constantly being ripped apart, have a dull ache in my right kidney and the Metformin, I can take it or leave it, as the side effects were affecting my job.
You've probably heard all this before and I do apologise for boring anyone, it really isn't intentional. I know i'm doing something wrong, as I struggle to get my readins below 16 on a good day.
Help !!!! :-S

My name is Mick, 56 yearsold and was diagnosed with type 2 for about 15 years ago. At first it was diet then the meds started. I am now on Metformin@ 2000mg, Glitazide @ 160mg and pioglitazone @ 15mg.

I had a wake up call at my last Diabetic clinic (Thursday) where I was told that if I continue as I am I could be on insulin by the end of the year.

I currently hold a full LGV and PSV licence but more importantly am a ambulance response driver.

As soon as I start to take insulin I will loose these privileges and possibly my job.

I have resigned myself to the fact that I need to start and look after myself and as of today I decided to start a low carb lifestyle with moderate exercise.

The exercise is ok as I consider myself reasonable fit but the low carb diet is new to me.

Can anyone suggest where I can get reliable information and real life recipies, rather than the kind that look good in books but nobody really ever makes

Hi Mick and welcome.

You are headed down the same road that I was on. I was ok whilst I was on Metformin and could exercise and diet however once I started having gastric sided effects from Metformin my medications were changed. These then started the weight gain era despite increasing exercise and more controlled diet. No matter what I did I kept getting worse even though my BS was stabilised.

I am an engineer and started an analyse of all the medications and alternatives. Two options came up that could put the diabetes in remission. Bariatric surgery and EndoBarrier. I opted for EndoBarrier as it was non invasive and did not carry the risks of surgery.
