Thanks. A well designed study and it demonstrates there are no benefits over a 4 year period for diabetics. Well Scottish diabetics over 40. ;-)

Seriously it's a good study and convincing. However it does not prove, and didn't attempt to measure, any harmful effects, so it's not evidence that daily mini aspirin is contraindicated for diabetics. I will probably stop taking it however based on this study, so thanks again.

The risks of taking aspirin are well known - increased risk of GI bleeds and such.

If the drug had benefits then you might weigh them against the risks of taking the drug, but since aspirin did not reduce the risk of fatal or non fatal heart attacks UNLESS you already have a history of heart disease there is literally no reason to take the drug.

A correction to my earlier post. Aspirin is OK with insulin but may increase it's effect according to my Levemir leaflet
