I do not have diabetes
When i will received kids for the camps for few days, means that parents will be either "happy" cuze will their duty of caring will be paused or will be "sad" cuze we separate their kids from them...

To be a parents of DK kids, its mean all the family will be a Doctor, Nurse, Dietician and fully "educated"

One of them were an Mam,
I told her just be "proud" from your kids with DM

DM for me its not a "disease"
No No No

Its just "what to do if my sugar level reading High or Low?!?"

Just be proud
:)

I'm a 16 year old t1... Although I can't imagine how tough it would be to be in your shoes right now, the only advice I would give is to make sure they grow up realising the significance of their condition, whilst still knowing they can do 'normal' things as well... I'm sure it will be difficult at times, god knows I've had hundred of rows with my parents about it, but I promise it will be worth it for the day they are able to live a controlled, healthy lifestyle. The only other thing I would say is to take advantage of diabetes nurses! Talk to doctors, nurses, specialists, andy help you can get! It will really help! I'm sure you're doing great, best of luck :)

Bless her, she sounds like she is coping with it really well, thats amazing that she can do her own blood glucose tests at 2 years old! It is hard for other people to understand exactly what you're going through as lots of people still think that diabetes means you can't have as much sugar in your tea :arghh: little do they know what it really involves and how hard it can be to keep things under control. This forum is great for chatting to other people who know exactly what you're talking about rather than the neighbour who once had a friend with a diabetic dog ;). As for telling you if she is low or high, i have been diabetic for 26 years and i still find it hard to tell

Hello I'm so sorry to hear of your little one being diagnosed. It can be so hard on parents coming to terms with their little one having this medical condition. My little granddaughter was 2 1/2 years old when she was diagnosed, it hit me like a ton of bricks and hit me hard, especially seeing her on the HDU fighting to live. But now she is 5 and from the start she just got on with it as did her parents, and she is doing so well and she is happy and has lots of friends at school who think she is 'very brave' but I found it much more difficult. Do you know what?, your friends may not understand a lot about Type 1 diabetes, and the huge impact it is having on you, but I'm sure they would understand what you are going through, how you cope, how you manage her condition, how it affects all the family. Don't be scared to talk about it to your friends, just having a chat about your worries and concerns with your friends would be a great help to you, that's what friends are for. It will get better in time and a little less daunting, but you can't help but worry about your child, just take little steps with each new day. Make sure you look after yourself too. Take care, with my very best wishes.. .

onions, and when people try to tell me about how to treat my diabetes based on their distant relationship with someone who has diabetes.
I'm type 1 and was diagnosed at age 3. I don't know if this helps, but one of the things I remember the most is the way my parents treated me. It was so much easier for me with my mother because she didn't talk to/in front of me about how much extra work I was making and how difficult it was. She made sure I knew that it wasn't my fault and that I was worth all the time/effort I cost. I still have problems with my dad nearly 12 years after the diagnosis because he often told me that I was the most expensive member of the family and my sisters weren't getting enough attention. He made jokes about it, but I still felt guilty. It still screws me up.

tldr: don't tell a young diabetic child about how they're "so much work." It does a lot more bad than good. Stay strong. Hope this helps. :)

Hi, I know this reply is late , but better late than never I suppose.

I was diagnosed when I was 2 as well ; so as much as I don't understand how you nor my mother felt , I do know certain characteristics I used to show. Hope the following helps :

Highs: wetting nappy, Dry lips, extreme crying.

Lows : Fast breathing , strange noises , paleness, quietness.

Thanks x

Hi, my son is 2 and has been type 1 for over a year, diagnosed at 10 months. I get a lot of comfort, support and advice from the facebook groups, 'diabetic mums' is a good one. I would highly recommend joining, it has helped me feel a lot less alone and taught me a lot, I have even met up with a few local mums a couple of times. All the best to you and your little one xx
