In December my numbers were HbA1c - 49 - (8.0) and my chol. was 7+ total.

Yesterday, HbA1c - 43 - 6.1 mmol/l, Total chol - 6.5, Trigs 1.3, LDL 4.8, HDL 1.1, BP 126/62. Is this good and if not how can I improve it please??

Weight has gone from 14st 8lb down to 11st 9lb.

I don't have to go back on Metformin as GP said my control is very good:)

Because my heartbeat has been all over the place, anywhere from about 36 - 47, to in the 90s - low 100s I'm being sent for a special test were my heartbeat will be tested over 2 days, though I don't think this has anything to do with diabetes? My GP says it could well be stress/anxiety, and I hope he is right as I'm scared to start exercise until/unless I know my heart is OK!! This has been worrying me a lot.

Well done Beshlie. Excellent weight loss, BP and HbA1c result, plus good news about the Metformin. Maybe your cholesterol could do with a bit of tweaking, but all in all excellent results. I hope you get your pulse rate sorted soon.

Well done in the reduction in Hba1c and your weight loss :)

The target cholesterol levels for people with diabetes are as follows:

  • Your total cholesterol level should be below 4.0mmol/l.
  • LDL levels should be less than 2.0mmol/l.
  • HDL levels should be 1.0mmol/l or above in men and 1.2mmol/l or above in women.
  • Triglyceride levels should be 1.7mmol/l or less.

Hope the heart trace works out fine, do let us know how you get on.

Thank you that info, Noblehead, I have made a note of it. Would total reduction in chol. achieve the above numbers?

Well it would certainly bring your numbers down, I'm no expert on cholesterol so any question would be best raised with your HCP's. Good luck Beshlie!!!!!!

Some hope Noblehead,! Most HCPs just parrot a figure , without any real understanding of the underlying facts! (It's what they taught me so it MUST be right!)

Excellent Belshie, I hope your heartbeat settles down or it can be cured by treatment.

Please make sure you get to the best hospital for diagnosis and don't let a GP put you off seeing a specialist.
I took me years to get my situation improved....my heart was slow and irregular and pausing during sleep repeatedly up to nearly 4 secs.
I have a pacemaker now but this is not appropriate for many arrhythmias.
I guess you know about coffee and alcohol being a problem?
Best wishes
Derek

Hi Derek,I don't drink coffee or alcohol. About a week ago I woke in the middle of the night and felt like I was being strangled and gasping for air, and my neck was painful for a while, not sure what that was about, but will mention it at the hospital. The place I am going to specialises in the heart/chest. I think I will wear something to track my heartbeat etc. and then go back for them to analyse the reading. When my heart goes too slow or too fast I become very dizzy and weak.

Well done with your results!

I'm wondering if your heart beat problem could well be anxiety. I think that has been my problem this last couple of weeks. I had an ECG last Friday, having been sent home from work Thursday. I have had a dreadful feeling high up in my stomach too. By Monday i was feeling better, having had complete rest. Returned to work Monday and it all started again. I completed my reports yesterday and that feeling has gone. My thyroid was also checked and it was ok. ECG ok but doctor said to go back if symptoms persist. In my head I remember nurse saying ECG was coming out as normal but she then said there were some blips with the beat. My pulse rate has varied from low 60s to almost 90.
I hope everything goes ok for you at the hospital and you begin to feel better.

Thanks Peacetrain. I woke up breathless today and then my pulse was around 103 and I felt dizzy. About a week ago pulse was in the 30s and 40s which made me giddy and it was the D nurse who discovered it. I'm waiting for my appointment with the specialist who will fit me with something to monitor my heart over a day or two, then I go back and they see the readings. I am hoping it is stress as it can be treated in different ways. My husband, who fortunately doesn't live with me, is a difficult person and sometimes just speaking to him on the phone gives me a panic attack, he also physically attacked me last year, and these things don't help. If it is him who is at the centre of it, it can be resolved. Just hope my heart is OK.

I understand. I suffered with eczema for years. Divorce was a very good antidote! I'm sorry your husband still makes life difficult for you. I've been very lucky not to have that problem.

Hope everything goes well and keep us posted about your progress. :)

A pulse so low as yours isn't normal so the heart monitor for 48 hours is a very good idea. Normal heart rate is 60-80, possibly lower but not under 50 provided you aren't an athlete. Low heart rate can indicate hypothyroidism.

I recently had a 48 hour monitor and it turned out I had atrial fibrillation, said I told you so to my GP and am being referred to all kinds of medical people including cardiologist. I also am told to take beta blockers every day now, before they were very reluctant to prescribe as my BP i lowish at 115/65 or lower. I haven't made up my mind on the anticoagulant yet and honestly I haven't had the time to go the chemist anyway.

If you can´t get air and feel as if you were strangled this can be a sign of congestive heart failure so if it happens again I suggest you go to A&E.

I put the strangling experience down to a nightmare because my husband tried to strangle me last year and it brought it all back. But I will mention it when I go to hospital. I do have some things in a bag in case I need to get to hospital because I've been feeling so unwell lately. My BP is around 126/62 normally. I just want my life and energy back so I can start a new life, and it's so frustrating!

Oh Beshlie! I'm so sorry! I would never have made so light of husband trouble if I had known what you had been through. :-(
