I have been to my pre conception clinic today , and got the go ahead to start trying but before I do.

I got the option to go onto a pump for this period of time . I've read the good reviews , and just come across about you could get infections scaring and dka  What about existing scaring ?
For people on the pump have you ever come across any of these problems , and do you find it beneficial . I got told I wouldn't qualify for the pump after pregnancy .
But just wanted to know others views who are in the pump . Before I make my decision .

Thankyou

I've been on an insulin pump since November 2012 and never had any issues with infections, scarring or DKA. Being on the pump is the best thing I've done as it has helped me control my T1 much better and not having to inject 4 times a day was the decision maker for me. No issues with using the pump at all. Hope you decide to try it anyway. It's great! :)

Thank you for you reply , it's strange because I don't mind doing the injections , I mind going on the pump . I have managed to get good control on the injections for a long while now . There just something about it , I feel isn't for me . I think I've already made my decision and will be staying put ,
What was your hba1c on injections and the pump ? Sorry just read your bit under your message . Your hba1c are brilliant on the pump .
My hba1c in May was 6.7 % . On injections . It's brilliant to hear how others have got on . But I think I would go down hill in myself on the pump sounds strange but I am a weirdo lol .

Thank you for your reply .

I haven't had any problems with DKA or scarring, and I've had really good experience being on a pump. I find it gives me a lot more flexibility and I can respond more quickly and easily to changes in my insulin needs (which might be useful for you during pregnancy e.g. setting your basal rate to be +10% or +20% of normal). If asked for a decision either way, I would always encourage others to go for a pump.

In your case, particularly given your concerns, I wonder if your decision might come down to timing. If you switch to the pump, I expect it could take a couple of months to get your control sorted out, and it might be a bit stressful getting used to a new regime. If you plan to start trying to conceive immediately, then you might want to stick with injections because you have good control with them and you're confident managing your diabetes with them.

If timing isn't an issue, you can always give the pump a try and see how it goes. If you either don't like it or it doesn't give you the control you want then you can simply go back to injections. As a taster, you might want to think about arranging a pump trial using saline. Before I started on the pump I had a lot of concerns about feeling constantly attached to something. My clinic gave me a trial using the pump with saline in it and it really put my mind at ease.

Good luck whatever you decide! :)

For me going on the pump was the best thing I have ever done. Don't get me wrong i've had a couple of moments where I thought about giving up and to be honest about a year ago a I went back to injections for a few weeks.

However I gave it another ago with a more determined outlook and now the results are showing for themselves. HBA1c is now 6.5, down from 9.3. I never would have been able to do that with injections alone. My biggest problem I am very insulin resistant so I need a lot of it, using the pump is allowing me to fine tune the doses, whilst I work on other things to try and bring my insulin requirements down. Never had any issues with DKA or any real scarring either.

My specialist was shocked when he saw my latest bloods :)

Good luck with your decision and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask

Hey guys ,
Thank you so much for all of this information you have passed on to me I have fount it all very helpful .
Since I posted I have spoken to my Dsn who I saw , and had a real good chat and has made me think I made the right decision .
I have decided to stay on my injections , my hba1c was 6.7 % in May and I'm going for another one again soon as they will monitor them more closely . I haven't ruled out the pump , If my bms suddenly change and I can not control them to where I want them to be I can change over during the pregnancy , so I will be doing with what I feel more confident with . My nurse even said to me she knew she shouldn't of even brought the pump up to me as she knows what I'm like and doing so well . So yay I've made my decision and I'm very happy .
Well done you in your hba1c lowering that is amazing !!

Thank you all so much again , I really appreciate it .

The pumps not for everyone, but this covers why it's considered great by some for health and social situations.

Hey , thank you so much for your reply , I fount your youtube video fab , full of information and good to watch .
And I also like your comment as saying it isn't for everyone . I'm very happy with my decision to stay on my injections and then see how things go with control , to see whats by best option for health . If i can do it all on injections I will be very happy . If I can't that's something I will tackle at the time .
Again thank you , I really enjoyed your be video .
