UK Car insurance - any good companies

I have just become diabetic; and I read it is illegal to discriminate against diabetics, but any time I tick the 'diabetic insulin' box, the quotes increase by £150 to £200.
I just phoned with a quote of £330 pound and mentioned I had forgotten that little detail about being diabetic; their best offer is now £600!!
I did that on comparison sites, and it happens every time. Doesn't help I am a 'new' driver for the 5th time as I have been swapping European cars, so start anew every time I go back to English cars - but the extra £200 is only because of the diabetes - isn't supposed to be 'illegal' (in our dreams).

So please can you advise good car insurance companies that don't costs diabetics so much.

Cheers,
S.

LV are very good. They were not too bothered about by Diabetes; a little wary of my epilepsy tho. Once they found out the latter had been controlled for at least 5yrs and I only have partial seizures they were fine.

Whenever I sort out insurance they have just added it to my notes but the quotes stayed the same. It doesn't have an effect on prices so I don't know how they can increase the price just like that. I'm with diamond.

You should not be penalised by paying higher premiums just for having diabetes, shop around if your current provider is trying to increase the premiums.

I'm with Direct Line and they have always been 100% ok with it.
Like a previous poster it was just added as a note to my policy.

Thanks for all the suggestions ; the problem is I have been swapping contracts and cars between countries ; on a French car for the last few years so am a 'new' driver again (despite driving 23 years), and my previous English insurance was through a work company. So I'm starting from scratch. The £200 add is when you use comparison sites, do one normal quote (new driver) then do it again with adding 'Diabetes'. Or phoning with the 'without diabetes' quote and then they recalculate and I get the same.
I do expect a New Driver to pay through the Nose, but annoyed that the Diabetes adds a lot to the price.
But I will try all the ones you suggest,
Cheers,

Sylvia

I don't know of any companies here that ask about diabetes specifically. Usually you just put that you have a 3 year restricted licence and that's it.

Diabetes!
Years ago. before the discrimination act, insurance companies loaded diabetics terribly but now if DVLA say you are fit to drive then it is illegal for the insurance companies to load the policy, I have never had any problems.

Hi everyone,

I'm new here, just taking a look through the forums and saw this thread.

I got insured with Coverbox, they fit you with a telematics box which reduces your premium, my insurance cheaper than it was now :)

(www.coverbox.com in case you need it ^^)

I'm with Churchill and it wasn't an issue at all, I just had to declare it. I had the same issue on price comparison websites though. So I just don't trust them and go to all the individual websites.

peas and doctors... well you asked!
When I was first diagnosed and started driving I had to pay a £50 premium but I've not paid that in years.
I'm with Hastings now and paying less than ever... (Not a plug I swear I'm not on commission) lol
