I was offerd injections but I'm too scared in giving myself a air bubble don't laugh lol I realy would be hopeless but I've just got used to my carb intake I've cut out bread at lunch wow my bg levels go down nice at night how it should be . We don't get told these things we have to work it out our selfs but guys girls I'd rather put up with a dogy belly now and then than go on injections for now

My nurse said to set the pen to 2 units then press the button to dispense it that's gets rid of any bubbles. You do get used to it, I was scared stiff at first, I'm on my 5th week on insulin now.

Any progress so far, did you practice a lot?

Yes I've done my arm a couple of times now, need to try the right arm but when your right handed it's more awkward, using the wrong arm lol, I use top of my thighs for the long acting, but last 2 nights have a vein so bled a bit.

Sods law, when you need to find a vein they vanish :)

Have not posted here for a while. Still injecting fast acting insulin but would like to eliminate all diabetes drugs. I've injected Byetta, then Victoza, and now humalog insulin. Injecting with a pen in your stomach is no big deal and after doing it 3-4 times a day, you become really good at it. I'm starting a program to get off all diabetes drugs through a medical office, using just nutrition and extensive medical tests. The new doctor thought I might be 1.5 LADA rather than type 2, but the tests showed I'm not a 1.5 afterall. They are using a nutrition protocol, but seem confused about inflammatory foods vs. high allergen type foods in the first phase of elimination diet. So I continued taking me insulin but had to restrict my diet initially to no grains, dairy, soy, only low glycemic fruits at midday, and lots of almond milk, nuts seeds, etc. So a very low glycemic diet. My blood sugars started coming down gradually but at one point I had gained 11 pounds probably from being more diligent with my insulin injections, and their requirement that I eat animal protein every 2.5 hours. Probably anyone would gain weight doing this. So what I've found is I'm the only one who seems to know anything about nutrition for diabetes, period. I just read an article in Diabetes Forecast magazine that showed a graph on average HbA1C for type 1 diabetics, by age, for 26,000 patients. Not a single average HbA1C by age was under 7.0%. This shocked me as I thought type1s would have better control than this as damage to your retina and kidneys starts at the low 6%. We learn something new every day when it comes to diabetes.

Getting old and everything that goes with it. All the repeats on TV. The drongos who ring me up to sell me things. Religious havens for pedophiles and war-mongers.
Under Specialist supervision I came off 130 units of insulin per day and onto 4 tabs and diet with better control and lost some weight and lost my raging hunger and spot on blood test results.

It was simple and easy.

Hello @PatsyB the advice on our website in Australia is to split your carbs up and not have them in one meal.to avid going high on the main meal of the day.

I bought bulk almond meal and coconut flour and Xanthan Gum and I have been adapting recipes to lo carb - even bread rolls.and custard and rum balls and frozen yogurt slices and cakes and tinned fish cakes.

Most of mine is microwave cooked or in the flat sandwich press toaster or just a cold mix, so it s all quick and easy except the bread rolls.

So between that and spreading he carbs between meals I avoid mealtime jabs.

I'm not type two, but I thought I'd put my experience in the pot. I thought I was going to have a really hard time. I am fine with pain and what not, but wasn't sure how I would react while looking at a needle being put in me, let alone doing it myself. A nurse at my ER taught me how to, and it was a lot easier and less painful than I thought. With the insulin that I took I found that most of the time it didn't hurt... but when I tried to put it in my leg that did, it really didn't want to go through the skin.

I used 29 gauge needles, very nice.

awww I'm so sorry to see you are having this problem, my diabetes team used me as a guinea pig to try this new combination so maybe you couldask your nurse/doc to try you on it! I started out 2 years ago seriously not giving a **** about my diabetes and weighing 17 stone 3lbs i now weigh 13 stone 10lbs....still not active in exercise but will go for a walk and not a chocoholic but do like my 2 chocolat biscuits in the morning. So being 49 and young at heart i feel great please speak to your diabetes team as you'll probably end up depressed.
Take care....xxx
