march 2014 started to get pain in heel/arch, gp said it was planta fascitis, so took painkillers and started physio,it felt like hell as being a health care assistant for a job,in july my foot went over and heard a crack and now severe pain, again my gp said a sprained foot ligament, rest it, after a week went back, sent to hosp, x-rays show broken 3rd metatarsal, plastered for 4 wks, then it was removed, boot to be worn for 3wks until nxt appointment, had it x-rayed 10 days ago, non-union ( no improvement) , and in considerable pain,,so come back in 6wks,thank god i saw diabetic consultant 2 days ago, he took one look at my foot, felt it (as it was hot to touch, viewed x-rays, said this has to go back in plaster,non-weight bearing, you have two fractures and a old one, and signs of charcot foot plus a mri scan asap,,he rang over to the trauma clinic/plaster room where i was heading and apparently was quite concerned of the lack of competence from other doctors and said he should of been informed/involved in decision making, considering i am a type 1 diabetic for 42 years , this has caused me to have very high blood sugars,so now back to square one with additional problems, and me scared to death

Oh my goodness, sounds horrendous for you. Sometimes I think the way they've compartmentalised medical staff into such highly specialised areas that they forget to take account of the overall health of a patient . Like tunnel vision of their own single field and anything else is down to someone else or they ignore it. As you're a type 1 diabetic of 42 years they should have been paying more attention to other foot problem possibilities like Charcots foot.

Do they think the bones will knit together with enough rest and time ? Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

i really dont know what the outcome is going to be,but i must think positive, having a long rest is nice, but not being able to mobilise much isnt, not much confidence gained with certain trauma doctors! but each hosp stay ive had found a lot of drs do not have enough diabetic knowledge, time will tell but long term prospects with the type of work i do, and financially are worrying
