Hi all,

I am sitting here with a swollen index finger on my left hand and the remains of a nasty finger nail bed infection on my right. I have never had these things before and I wondered if they are a complication of diabetes?

An article which might help,

Neglected infections may result in infection tracking up the finger, requiring much more extensive surgery and posing other health risks - particularly in people who have diabetes, circulatory or immune system problems.
There are some graphic photos here, can you identify with any of them?

I would suggest that you see your G.P. and see what he says.

Could it be down to finger pricking when you test?
Thanks Bluetit,

Yes that could be why - I use new sterile lances every time and only test when I am ill as I am stable on an Low C High F diet but had nasty virus recently and went very low as a result of it so did test myself. i like to know the reason for things so thanks for replying.

Yes thanks for that too - fat chance of me getting anywhere with my GP - have very heavy workload next week and cannot sit on phone asking for one cos I have to leave for work before the phone lines open! But will try as soon as I can - I have gone from being someone who never saw a doctor to turning into a 'repeat flyer' as they so unflatteringly term us. Definitely think that as I have thyroid problem too it is about time that I started asking for a referral to a consultant.
