Morning guys and gals,

just a quick question about blood levels, I have been diagnosed as a type 2 but told every time I see the nurse that I am not a typical type 2 eg not overweight, only 31, no family history.

I test my levels and this morning my fasting was 15.5 which I thought was quite high and yesterday, after my breakfast (a bowl of bran flakes) and my 2 metformin it was 16.9, then an hour later it was 20.6! it eventually came down to 11.2.

They just seem to vary quite a bit, I don't know if its cos I am not a typical type 2 and may need to start insulin soon (I was only diagnosed this time last year) I've been reading up type 1.5 which I think I may be (not sure) bit confused with it all.

I'd make an appointment, it's likely you need more meds and I like insulin over the pancreas hammers, you will keep as many beta cells as you can
but don't dismiss diet
http://www.dietdoctor.com/lchf it’s a long page and a video

I would make an appointment and ask to be tested for LADA.

This video explains the tests that need to be carried out and may be of some help.

Its funny you mention more meds, I moved house and changed doctors a few months ago, I was on 850mg x2 daily metformin for over a year, my new doc put me on 500mg x4 daily, I dunno if that has something to do with that.

I would ask for the slow release and take 1000 twice a day, or 2000 once a day, I couldn't remember to take it 4 times a day,
as you know your levels are too high, I'd start now and cut as many carbs as I could, as well as see the nurse, catherine's suggestion to get the LADA blood test is a good idea,

Insulin
Hi. Similar situation to myself at diagnosis i.e. slim with very hgh BS. It took me 8 years to get to insulin having gone thru all the tablets eventully with no effect. Yes, it looks very likely that you are a LADA. Do ask for the two tests and get correctly diagnosed now if you can. My GPs didn't know about LADA and I was never tested by them. If you are LADA then you may be able to use tablets such as Gliclazide and Sitagliptin for a while (Metformin is largely irrelevant) but insulin will proably be needed evantually. Don't worry about the insulin as it's not a problem and a great releif not having to starve yourself with tablets and a low-carb diet.
