I was at work as a nurse had lost 3 stone over 6 months drinking water constantly a doctor commented and checked my blood sugar it was 33.8 I was then starved for 6 hours and bloods taken for my HBA1C which came back at 108 clearly a type 2 diabetic oops I really should have known better being a nurse but as always it wasn't going to happen to me so dismissed it . Still not stable now between 9 and 14 but getting there.

My reading was 32 taken at the last appointment in a Friday GPs surgery a year ago where I had gone to confess that I had a constant thrush infection that I could not get rid of using over the counter meds. I was told to eat nothing but vegetables and meat for two weeks and to go to hospital for a blood test on the Monday morning. At my next GP appointment a week later I was told that I was also suffering from hypothyroidism. I had no idea then when it started but gathering information later showed that it probably started when I was pregnant with my first child 16 years before!!!! So it is not surprising to me that so many of us are walking around with such high levels before diagnosis. I was a single mother bringing up two children in a stressful highpower job and struggling with caring for my demented widowed mother at the time. I was running to catch up with myself every day, fed up that I could not lose weight etc, waking three times a night to go to the loo and blaming it all on stress! Six months after diagnosis my HbA1c was 5.9 and yes I have quit sugar in a big way and practise the principles of the LCHF diet.

And how were you diagnosed? What were your symptoms?
My sugars were 32 and I was barely conscious and rushed to hospital
I don't know what my blood sugar was as I was only 6 years old.
I do know that I started wetting the bed again at night and I lost an awful lot of weight ( my nan had to alter my bridesmaids dress a week after fitting it as my weight was just dropping off). My thirst was also ragging. I was also extremly tired the whole time.
I have been Type 1 for nearly 40 years.

I have back problems and had lost weight when screening picked me up.
1st test was 10.7... 2nd was 12.2
Classed as type 2 now. GP was great had my eyes screen in less than 2 weeks and on Desmond Course in less than a month.

7.4 or 57 - went in for acid indigestion. The GP saw I was over 40yrs and did lots of blood tests.

I was caught early I think as I have now reversed the condition 12 months down the line.

I was diagnosed in June (they are still unsure which type, leaning towards type 1). I had a surprise blood test at my doctor's where they found out I was walking around with a blood sugar level of 33. I was sent to hospital the next day for various tests, they told me I had diabetes they just didn't know which type (they were still unsure after specialist blood tests came back 6 weeks later). At the moment I'm treating with lantus solostar insulin once a day and have been since diagnosis.
I originally went to the doctor's because of numbness and tingling in my legs and feet and arms and hands. I now know that this is peripheral neuropathy which is linked to the diabetes.

24/10/2014...my first reading was something like 26....felt like the walking dead for a couple of weeks prior to this...I'd dropped 2.5 stones and looked like a junky....was put on metformin which helped me feel a little better but I knew I needed insulin..eventually was prescribed basal insulin and was told I was lucky I didn't present at the ER in a coma..immediately felt better and now I love sticking myself with my Lantus pen every night :)

36. Two months of loosing up to 1& a half stone of weight. Extremely thirsty and always needing a wee. Needed a nap after every meal as was so tired. Eventually my brother (who is also type 1) demanded he test my sugar level and it was 36. Fasting in the morning it was 18. Just one day in hospital then out again :)

If i remember correctly mine was around 54, i was taken into hospital and put on loads of insulin and fluids intravenously, for 36 hours. And i walked into the hospital ! And i didnt need my glasses either, it had corrected my eyesight, only whilst it was high though !

Mine was 19, as with most of you - I was drinking bombloads through the day for a thirst that was never quenched, toilet to the point of it being irritating. I thought it was the whey protein, used through working out - which is a know side effect, but I did think it was getting a bit much - Im told it was probably masking the symptoms. Anyhow, my diagnosis was a harsh wake up call & here we are.

Mad to think how long Ive had it, my levels are much better now & I never had any funny 'turns' or reasons to think there was anything the matter. and only a few months previous Id spent the full week at Glastonbury drinking mostly Magners & full bore local scrumpy - wonder what the reading would have been on that! And I felt fine, which is the frustrating thing, looking back.

91 . and in a coma

91!!!!!! Bloody hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is crazy!!!

Luckily I didn't stay in over night and was diagnosed there and then in the ane. My mom broke down because her brother has it and knew how life changing it was but I told her that there were people in this hospital dying and won't see tomorrow so this is a small hurdle I'll have to get over.

But God was she right. It is life changing. And I don't think realised that at the time!

Could hardly stay awake , my sleeps were very deep scary , I had a call from a gp once I had requested a test for db , she said good job we have found it ,,can you get to hospital quickly ....the word we had found it ,,confussed me , as I had asked for the test before, two years ago my request for a test was dismissed as well ...now I am taken seriously .....I thought I was going mad ...sometimes you just have to take your health in your own hands ...

42. I was twelve years old. My GP was amazed I was still conscious. I spent two weeks in hospital.

The thing that sticks in my mind is the unbearable thirst. I was getting up in the night to go to the toilet and drinking water out of the toothpaste cap out of desperation and not wanting to ask my mum for yet another glass of water!

I was 13 in 1971 when diagnosed - I had felt really ill for about a week with incredible thirst & constant peeing - I lost half of my body weight. My mum called an emergency doctor on the Saturday morning and though I gave him every symptom for diabetes he told my mum to get me Lucozade and gave me sleeping tablets - I went into a coma on the Saturday night and woke up in hospital the following Thursday - a very close call!!!! I don't know what my BS reading was but I was kept in hospital for six weeks.
