if most of your numbers and basal is ok..if you think it looks like a DP/liver dump...metformin might help?

I don't have a nurse and see a dr each time, but the dietitian said. low carb was ok, and I had to go low fat and low salt
seems that protein was limited too...so I gave up because it left a couple of chops with the fat cut off and a tin of sardines in water a day
Ha. The "Low Food" diet. Please eat some dust...

well I was 250lb / 115kg..:) but it wasn't going to be something I could live with and I got a shrug when I said,,that justs leaves protein and she went back to how good carbs were and my brain needs 140g to run on

You have to love the brainwashing. I do wonder where some of these numbers come from, especially with the number of us running on <50g per day.

No,no, my levels are fine, i usually have 4-5mmol fasting bg. She was trying to convince me 5.3% a1c is "too low" and said that gem about 8mmol fasting being "good"... I looked at her terrified.

Nurse "Somebody who does as much exercise as you should be eating at least 300-400g of Carbs a day"

Nurse "You don't need to test 10 times a day, that's OCD"

Nurse "You are having far too many lows look at all these 4s." Me "A 4 isn't a hypo" Nurse "yes it is" Me "No it isn't."

Nurse "Your HbA1c is far too low, I'd be happier if we bought it up by 1%" Me "I plan on reducing my standard deviation and brining it down by another half a percent"

Nurse "Yes I know you like to follow low carb, but it is very risky, you shouldn't believe everything you read on the internet, most of these people's claims aren't backed up with science, there are good reasons why we make the recommendations we do"

Nurse: "You are testing a lot, 6 or more times a day is too much. Just try testing when you get up and then once or twice more during the day"

Me: "At what times would you suggest these other two tests?"

Cue awkward silence.

Hi, @Nicola M :) and welcome to this nice Forum.
Your Doctor should know that you may be a little sensitive, therefore making comments like that in my mind is a form of being bullied.
When you go back on the 18th be prepared for some silly comments,If you feel brave enough, tell your doctor that his comments cause pain which is the last thing you need going to the doctors.
Sometimes a small note handed to the Doctor explaining what upsets you gives the doctor a chance to realize his unhealthy comments.
Best of luck, Thank goodness not all Doctors are like that.:doctor:
Please let us know how you get on after your next visit.

I always keep in the back of my mind that the average doctors and nurses interaction with diabetics will be type 2,
so they do say silly things when talking to type 1s'.

I guess thats why we get to have our own specialists.

For the last two appointments she has given me a printed care plan which is for type 2 diabetics!! And when I point out that I am in fact type 1 and have been for 40 years she just says something like " I don't know why that has happened"!!!
I also got told by the hospital consultant that my HBA1c at 6.7 was too low and that I must be having frequent hypos!!

Worst advice I ever followed was "your A1C is too high, you are allowed sweets you know" when I was 18 and had worked my a** off for years - it's like saying to a teenager "it's fine - go ahead and drink drive." They don't know how damaging they can be.

My current consultant believes the way to a great A1C isn't to help your patients - it's to scare them ... If mine increases I'm "the worst diabetic I've seen" (he doesn't realise his patients talk to each other and know he says that to all of us"), last time mine dropped he congratulated himself "I must finally have scared you enough to make an effort"... He has been the subject of 2 formal complaints from me and clearly I'm not the only one - he was recently investigated but he is still the only consultant qualified in pump therapy so they won't get rid of him! :-(

Went yesterday for my appointment. Went in got my HbA1c result which was 6.9% which is good. Spoke to them about my results and they basically said it's not my fault some of my results are high all I can really do is do short acting insulin even if I haven't eaten anything. They are going to do a CGMS test in the new year, review the results with me and if nothing has improved they may switch me to a pump. Oh and I told them you know I'm trying my hardest to control my diabetes just be more understanding with me because it's hard. Much better appointment this time round!

It was when she got a different brand of statin from the drawer (the last one had crippled me) and said, "No-one has ever had any trouble with these".

She wouldn't lie to me on purpose would she?

Can I have one thing for the doctor and one thing for the nurse?

The doc, "Your health problems are due to you losing so much weight."

The nurse, "I just have to weigh you now" every flipping time I go to see her. "You need to lose another 7kg before I see you again in 3 months". Err, yes I know, I am still fat, thanks.

***! Do they not talk to each other? I weigh 40 kg less than I did a few years ago, have had two major surgeries in the last year, spent time in intensive care unit, yet still have non-diabetic BG for over 3 years!

It would be nice to have them occasionally say, "well done"
