How do I find out how long insulin stays in my body?? I take novorapid with my meal.
Also if you wait 45mins don't you feel hypo symptoms? The most I've waited before breakfast is 23 minutes and I still had a spike!! Could my liver have kicked in or should I wait longer?
First step I recommend is working out your carb:insulin ratio (depending on how active you are and your body composition this could be anywhere between 1unit:8-15g chb). On days when I have heavy/ more intense bike workouts I find my ratio to be slightly lower (I require more insulin) however, post heavy/intense/long bike ride days my ratio is much higher (require less insulin).
Once you have found the magic numbers then you can start experimenting with pushing your hypo threshold time. I started at taking insulin 15mins before meal (breakfast is a good time to test as there is no other food in the system). Each day add another minute...but make sure to keep all other variables the same (food, weight, time of meal, basal etc etc). Once you find your threshold time you have one of two options and these I cannot advise on as I'm not qualified...just my own experience. 1) you can stick with that time and take insulin number of minutes before each meal or 2) you can continue to try and build your threshold time by adding either 30seconds each day or 1 minute every other day. I understand that any health professional will advise against option 2 but for me it has worked and my results show it (hba1c of 4.0 and only diagnosed 30.4.14).
This is all assuming you have got the right basal set up...have you done this?
I cannot recommend exercise aiming 1-3 hours daily as a minimum (I understand this is difficult but try and build it into your life because it helps a lot!!)
Any more questions feel free to ask! I hope this has been of some help
