Hi guys
I'm using Lantus background 1 shot every 24 hrs, 14 units at tea time. I put it into my outer thigh or bum, but it does sting and gives a red sore patch at injection point for a few minutes then fades, anyone else have this?, it's at room temp, so not straight out of fridge, any hints to make it hurt less, don't want to use tummy as I use that for my Novorapid.

Working full time, fairground rides or anything which makes too much adrenaline!
I use the Lantus in the evening too and I can sympathise with you as it does sting quite badly. I inject it into my stomach or thigh as I've found if I do it in my arms it hurts more. I'm afraid I don't think there's anyway to stop it stinging unfortunately. :(

All things that hurt (emotional and physical)
I have been on lantus for a good few years and yes it does sting. For me the stomach really hurts when I inject my lantus. Sometimes it's a teeth clenching experience. It's common with lantus and I remember my specialist nurse telling me after they had put me on it that it had a tendency to sting.

My profile cat's just had some!

I believe lantus is more acidic than other basal insulins and that is why it can sting.

I went to my diabetes team about this and they gave me slightly longer needles (8mm instead of 5mm) pain has pretty much gone since!

Interesting....doesn't the longer needle hurt going in?

Pinch that skin! I use 6mm needles, it only stings if I shove it in.
