Diabetes and ulcerative colitis.... :) Rude people... Violence.... and the amount of time I spend away from my beautiful family in the UK...
I bought an optimum neo on ebay for £10 and have found a reasonably priced pharmacy in australia for the strips (again via ebay). But yes there are a few meters that test both - opted for the neo as can get the strips at a reasonable price and can be used as a backup blood glucose meter to.

This is a good article http://www.dietdoctor.com/lose-weight-by-achieving-optimal-ketosis

and here is the chart I mentioned I would find for @Merrylizard1314

Thank you so much for spending your time doing this... I am really interested in it... I have been low-carbing since I was diagnosed last October.. I luckily found this forum straight away... I have been wondering about the ketosis... if I add a few carbs now will it have much of an impact on the ketosis? I actually ate two french fries the other day... :) I am not drawn to carbs so don't look for them at all, but I think I'd like to add a few now... one of the few things I miss is buttery mash or roast potatoes and gravy... :([/QUOTE]

5.1 am, after 5.6 last night.... reducing proteins and dairy products a bit, increasing avocado and garlic.... a lot... couple of evening walks over the last couple of nights.... all helps.... be interesting to see where this goes.

Its all trial and error isn't it and what works for one doesn't always suit another. For me exercise is defo key I had 61 carbs for my breakfast ( slow release /high fibre but carbs nevertheless and with 20 mins exercise my bloods had only gone up to 9.6 from 7.1 . Not good figures I know but still not a vast rise .

Pleasure. We all learn from one another on here. I am trying to keep carbs down to a minimum but yes I have drifted every now and then. Not sure on the potatoes. Haven't had them at all this year but maybe someone else has and could advise? I suppose the only way to check would be to test a small amount first? I think that chap in the diet doctor link experimented with this. I shall have a look see later.

An amazing 5.4 considering I had a carb attack last night, kettle crisps, payday bar and a lot more than a handful of Brazil nuts, won't be repeating it just a bad evening.

Keep well and don't follow my example.
A good number,JohnD54, and with all the Brazil nuts, your selenium levels will be looking brilliant

@Baruney, thanks mate, good information and splendid link. It has been full-on here all day, and I've only just seen your post. Now I am just like @nomistheman and all my sleep patterns are awry.
Went for a run this am. It was great, there was no one on the hill, sunny, with kangaroos.

Fasting checked very late today after 1pm - I was doing my imitation of Sleeping Beauty :D : 7.3

Flat again though at 7.0 and 7.3 pre and post my
very late brunch.

For @Susikav and anyone else who was asking about ketone testing strips: the urine test ones are Bayer Ketostix, and you can also buy them online from eBay and Amazon; they're around £6.00 a pack of 50 and you can cut the strips in half. :p Main disadvantage is that you won't necessarily see any ketones once you're into ketosis as you'll be burning rather than eliminating them. But have a look at this alternative - the Ketonix - too, which is quite pricey but is a one-off expense as you don't need anything extra to use it.

If you want a decent chocolate drink - make your own virtually cabohydrate free version with sugar free cocoa, double cream, and if required a little stevia or erythritol to sweeten. Far better for you than a load of "diabetic" chemical ****...

The one good piece of advice my diabetic nurse actually gave me was to avoid food specifically made for diabetics.
