:( Looking for some help or advise!?!? I'm going crazy I'm 24 type 1 diabetic and in constant horrific pain!! My whole body is riddled with it. The pain radiates all down my back.. My stomach and just recently the skin at the top of my arms and thighs are sore to the touch. Even just wearing clothes having them brush against my skin is so painful.. Asthough I have fallen over and scraped my skin. I have been to A&E multiple times. My own doctors about twice a week for the past two months and they have literally told me they cannot help me. I have been on all the painkillers u can think of. Even morphine does not even take the edge off. I'm at my wits end and really struggling. I find it hard to look after my two year old and even dropping her to nursery on the bus I feel I've walked a marathon. It literally feels as though my body is giving up on me. I can't eat, my sugars are all over the place iv now broke out in abscesses.. I don't know where to turn, iv tried difrent doctors and walk in centres. It's getting to the point where I just don't want to be here anymore.. I can't cope.. I'm writing this in hope that somebody out there may have been through the same thing I'm going through and can help me somehow??

Iv recently been told about something related to diabetes called neuropathy? I asked my doctor if I could be suffering from this but he said I was too young?? Is there anybody here that suffers from this condition

Charlut, that sounds horrible. I don't have any experience of anything similar, but I hope you get it sorted out. A proper diagnosis would be a first step. Didn't the doctors give you any idea what it might be?

Please don't give up - there'll be an answer out there somewhere. You just have to find it.

I hope others here can make good suggestions to you.

How awful for you Charlut and it can be easy living like this, can I ask if your under the care of a hospital diabetes clinic, if not then you need to get an urgent referral over to see a diabetes consultant where they will look at your diabetes control and work with you to bring your levels down and also address the symptoms that you are experiencing.

A few more details about your current insulin regime and knowledge of carb counting( and adjusting your own insulin doses) would be helpful so members here can suggest a few things that might help in the mean time.

Doctors just don't seem bothered completely lost hope in them all.. When I was in waiting room this week for docs I thought I was going to pass out he checked my blood pressure n I think it was 90 over 70.. I'm not under any hospitals for diabetec care. I just don't know where to turn when my own doctors and hospitals won't help in any way... I said it's like none of u believe me n he turned around and said its not that we do t believe you we just can't help u

Have you got a family member or friend you could take with you to the doctors? That would give you support and they could explain how you're feeling.

You have Type 1 diabetes, you said? Then you must have a hospital consultant you see, or a DSN or even the number of the diabetic centre at your local hospital. If you're feeling so down about this, it'd be good if you could speak to someone who could help.

HI @Charlut, so sorry to hear of your multiple mediacl problems at such a young age, it sounds awful and debilitating.
Last year I fell from a height, smashed my wrist up and then severe complications set in. My condition is called Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome,( CRPS) and I am still having ongoing treatment, therapy. One of my symptoms was my skin on the affected arm was so sensitive, no one could touch it, even the slightest touch, even alight sheet on the bed was horrendous and agonising. But 8 months on, things are much better, but only with the ongoing therapy
Please see you GP about your symptoms, take another person with you for moral support. Don't be bullied and sent away with "there is nothing they can do".
I don't know what your condition could be, but you must get a proper diagnosis.
CRPS It is a real condition and not in peoples head ( as it was once thought of years ago). This condition can follow a trauma, but even just spraining an ankle can start it off and it is not known why this happens to some people.
I wish you all the best and good luck, please let us know how you get on.

Good luck and take care RRB

I'm happy ur on the mend its good to hear. I have fully given up on the doctors I must have been at least twice every week for the past two months now.. Even told them being in this much pain is making me give up on life and they really really just do not seem to care? I meen who do u go to if ur own doctors don't want to help you?? See I haven't even had a trauma to explain why suddenly these extra pains have started.. It's like a constant carpet burn sensation. I was told about something with diabetes called neuropathy that basically damages the nerves but when I suggested it he sed I can't have it as not been diabetic long enough?

No I just see the diabetic nurse occasionally at my doctors. I have been with the doctors crying my eyes out telling them how I feel and he just gave me some tablets that after I left I read up about and are actually used for epilepsy??

@Charlut, while I sympathise that you are in so much pain, there are two things you must do.

1. Insist on a referral to a diabetic consultant

2. Get your blood glucose levels under control.

These will both be critical in starting to feel better. As others have said, these are things you must do if you want to move forward.

Sorry to hear about your pain and lack of treatment. Like other posters has said you should be referred to your hospital's diabetes team to be assessed properly. What is you HBA1c and what BSs do you get when you test. What insulins are you using as perhapd one of the insulins don't agree with your body..are you on levemir or lantus???These two insulins can have bad effects on some people.

My condition can happen to anyone and for no apparent reason, it doesn't have to be due to a trauma of some sort it can happen out of the blue. You are obviously suffering and it needs investigating. See if you can change your GP to another one, ask family, friends or neighbours if they have a good GP or change your surgery. What ever it is , don't give up, everyone deserves and has the right to get the proper care that is needed, I know you feel like giving up because they don't seem to care, I'm sure there is help out there.
I go for hand therapy weekly, when I go tomorrow afternoon, I will write down your symptoms and ask my therapist Kevin and see what he says. What part if the UK do you live in? ps Your symptoms maybe not be diabetes related.

Take care RRB

Hi. This sounds bad. You have a legal right to a second opinion so would go to a different GP. As mentioned before you should have some one at the hospital over seeing you too. Ask the GP straight why you aren't. My GP is great but doesn't know much about the ins and outs of diabetes. When I was first diagnosed I was warned I could get some pretty random pains while my BG settles down. Maybe if you get support to get things under control it will settle down for you.

Hi charlut, I've been in your situation with doctors. I have been getting bad headaches for the past 3/4 months and been prescribe several painkillers, none of them seem to do much. All I can say is try staying positive for yourself and your daughter. Must be difficult living day to day with this but trying a different GP to give you a proper referral might help. Even an MRI scan could pick up something. Go to see a physio, they could give you some relief if your pain is very bad. Keep us updated anyway. All the best

People that can't listen to other people's opinions.
People that can't say sorry.
You need to see a diabetic consultant.
Please ask your GP for a referal.
GP's are literally Generally Practicing with medicine. They are not specialists. You need a specialist that deals with diabetes day in, day out.

Your GP cannot refuse to refer you to a consultant.

If you had the time I would check out online the reputations of your local hospitals (as you do have a choice) and look up on the NHS choices website. If you go to the newest info at nhs.uk and type in your hospital(s) and diabetes in the search there is a huge lot of info available now. You can then ask your GP to refer you to your choice. It actually will give you the average length of time for the 1st outpatient appt.

Hi Charlut.Sorry to hear of your suffering and pain. Sounds like you were given the same tablets as I was. Although they are used to control epilepsy, they are also used in neuropathy. Ask your GP to reassess the dosage as they can be effective. I would definatly DEMAND to see a Diabetic Specialist at a hospital as its your right to have access to specialist care. I know sometimes it can be difficult to stand up to medics but your healthcare is non negotiable.Don't give up.

Hi I am tagging @gemma6549 hope I have done that right?! She was very young like you when she had neuropathy but she is OK now, she might be able to give advice?

What everyone has said here is right, you must demand to see a diabetes specialist and need to get your sugars under control the best you can. You need to see a diabetes specialist to help you with this, not just the diabetes nurse at the GP!

All the best
