Hi guys,

Just wondering if you can buy insulin pens (cartridge refills) over the counter? Somewhere like Boots?

Would like to buy a few more so I have an emergency supply.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi there,
Unfortunately insulin in any form, either cartridge refills or pre filled pens are a prescription only medication, so you can't buy them over the counter. Why not ask your GP for a larger quantity on prescription if you are concerned about running out ? ( I'm assuming here that you are on the UK )

If it's the actual pens you want, such as the Novopen, again, it's possible to have them on prescription ( I have two spares, following a malfunction over Xmas a few years ago ) or else the company who makes your current pen can be contacted via their customer helpline and may send you a spare.

You can buy pens without prescription; I bought one off eBay.
