Your welcome it might not feel like it but remember how much energy you are putting into it and it's early days, which could mean that the worst is resolved quicker, as our motivation can help so much. Hugs

Actually, once you learn carb counting, it will be much easier to eat whatever you want - and how much you want. It takes time (and tears, as you've found) but you WILL get there. It becomes a way of life. There will be the odd hiccup with hypos and hypers but you'll learn to cope with them and learn from them.

People that can't listen to other people's opinions.
People that can't say sorry.
Hi

You will learn huge amounts from people here.
Like you, I struggled. 30 years ago I was put on a really tight regime. However, I am the opposite to most people and had to go from eating once a day to eating regularly. We were taught a bit differently in those days...

However, I found (and you will to) that we aren't all robots and that there is flexibilty when we learn more.

It is **** tough but thoughts nowadays are that if you can test and inject and know how to adjust your insulin then you can eat and drink etc the same as a non diabetic.

However, this takes a while.. It doesn't magically happen overnight...

But let me give you some hope. I'm now almost 52 years old. I'm still a size 8. I'm still fit and active and without complications. I still eat one meal a day although some healthcare and persons through the years have tried to get me to change. My nurse at my hospital is fantastic as she too low carbs, she too only eats one meal a day...my healthcare team believe in me. My nurse cares enormously for diabetics that struggle in coping. They want to see fit individuals that will care for themselves... They want to help.

There are fantastic people here. You are never alone. Reach out and talk at anytime.

You don't have to struggle alone.

First don't be afraid of your diabetes. If you rule it, it can't rule you or your life. I promise you. the longer you live with this illness, the easier it gets. I have been type1 for 32 years. Firstly, call your diabetic specialist nurse, and explain your predicament. Get them to give you extra training (I know, they seem to tell you once and leave you to cope, almost on your own, I went through it in the beginning.). Do not be put off, after all it is your life and health we are talking about. I assume you are taking a set dose of insulin at set times during the day. Along with a set amount of carbohydrate to eat. Again ask to speak to a dietician and get them to explain the kinds of food you need to eat, Most of us tend to eat normal portions of normal foods at first, don't be fooled by 'diabetic foods, they are expensive, and a lot less healthy. If you are mixing insulins' in the same syringe or are you using more than one pen to deliver the insulin. It takes practice. If you are using pens with one type during the day, and a different one for nighttime, The nighttime one is usually a long acting one called a basal or background insulin, and lasts up to 24hours, if you are always going low, it may be this one which needs adjusting (ask your doctor, a slightly smaller dose will reduce the probability of low blood sugars). for more people with diabetes, try the site 'diabetics round the globe' this is an Australian site, run by a young lady called Jo Harboro, People from all over the world use this site, So the knowledge base is unlimited, just remember, you are not alone.

I've been diagnosed Type 1 for a year now and I'm starting to struggle at the moment. I just think we all will have moments it's a bit change don't beat yourself up about it. Definitely don't think your contacting your diabetic nurse too much that's what they are there for. I learnt carb counting from the get go and had loads of support. I had mixed insulin (fast and slow acting mixed together twice a day) but I'm on the same as you now Nova Rapid and Lantus. To be honest I like them separate you have more control of your bloods because you are taking what you need for the amount of carbs you are consuming. Download the carbs and calories app (you can get this on iPhone and Andriod phones) best thing to use you can get the book but the app is constantly being updated. You can select the foods you are eating and it tells you how many carbs you are having. I take 1 unit of Nova Rapid for every 10grams of carbs. So a regular sandwich for example will be around 5/6 depending on the filling. You can record your blood readings on there and link it with your meals and how much insulin you take. I would definitely recommend this to start off its a lot of work but you learn very quickly. Please don't think your alone or your bothering anyone with the way you feel xx

I'm 5 years in and trust me, it gets easier. I don't see myself as being any different to anyone else now except I need to test and inject and keep a bag of sweeties to hand. Learn carb counting as quick as you can and don't panic if you have a bad day. I'm still learning how my body behaves and still get surprises but management becomes second nature. I can now guess my insulin needs just by looking at a plate of food.

Hi @cezli84,

Diabetes is ****, it can change your moods if your blood sugars are too high. You can become angry, depressed and stressed which raises your blood sugars further and then you're going round in circles without even realising. What level are your blood sugars at the moment?

Did you find the site page about moods? Maybe some of this information could be helpful to you at this point.

You will get through it, you control diabetes not it controls you :) I have been a diabetic for 10 months and it has been a rollocoaster don't get me wrong but it gets easier to manage. I think of it as second nature like brushing my teeth in the morning. There is so much tremendous support out there as well, your not alone always remember that! :) *tip - keep a diary of your blood sugar it helps a lot*

well my lovely all I can say is welcome to the diabetes community!!! ;) I don't like to beat about the bush so here goes...... been type 1 since I was 4 and I turn 30 this year, technology has come miles in this time so don't worry bout the variety of treatments available you will have to trial and error them to find the right one for you since we are ALL DIFFERENT!!! you will come across the odd medical professional who clearly takes all their knowledge straight from a textbook but most of them are good!! it is a hard adjustment to life because until you are used to it it will feel like you are 2nd thinking every decision you make but its not all bad, it will become 2nd nature to do these things and it wont bother you after a while and if you do feel like a moan or a ***** about well there are plenty of us in the same boat, never be afraid to ask advice whether it be from the community or your doc/nurse/specialist, its a life long learning curve for everyone!! I myself after 25 years am having a huge blip nothing seems to fix so far but there are still options its just working at it till I get it right again!! I strongly agree it is an excellent idea to get put on a carb counting course and to keep a blood sugar diary, also possibly as a new diagnosis to keep a food diary along side. again I know it seems like hard work but trust me it will aid you a great deal. this disease is a pain in the ass and it can affect so many things from your eyesight to food allergies to liver function etc etc etc but the harder you work at getting it right the better off the other things will be, I learned that the hard way so feel free to call me a hypocrite!! lol you will learn from mistakes but then if there were no mistakes we wouldn't truly learn anything!! do not be hard on yourself if its not perfect straight from the off no one is!! and don't think you cant treat yourself to the things you love as long as you have these things in moderation. I wish you the best of luck :) xx p.s. as far as carb counting goes you can get an app for about £4 on playstore called carbs & cals its really good and I think it could benefit you greatly xx
