I was 21. Only had blurred vision, but worked in a hospital and I just knew what it wasJust out of pure curiosity, what was everyone's readings at diagnosis? Mine was 44
am i the only one who put on weight? put on about a stone
I fid it ridiculous when you get tol you are too young or too old to have something wrong in your body that's like saying I cant have cancer because im not 40!!! stupid eh??!! x14.8 fasting with a diagnosis I was type 2 because according to my ex GP 'at 34 years old I was too old to be type 1' despite having lost nearly 2 stone in 3 months!! Luckily myself & my sister work in the local hospital & disagreed with the GPS diagnosis, my sister is a secretary to the diabetic consultant, who I was very fortunate to see on the same day, my ketones were 4.7. I was given a novorapid pen & give myself my first injection of insulin plus pints & pints of water to flush the ketones out of me 6 hours later I was let out of hospital got home & phoned to cancel the 2 wk all inclusive holiday to Rhodes I was supposed to be going on the following day....if I'd listened to my GPS decision things my have been very different. Possibly having DKA on holiday in a foreign country may not have had a happy ending!! On 05/09/15 it'll be my one year anniversary, it hasn't been easy but I consider myself lucky & hope maybe one day I can say 'I had diabetes'
There's something called the dawn phenomenon (read up on it), where your BG level takes a rise in the morning. That could explain why your BG levels are higher in the morning than before bed. And the more you sleep in, the higher your levels!Hi, this is my first time on here, so please be gentle with me! I was diagnosed T2 3 years ago on 24th of July. I was told my BG was 5.7 after fasting and doing glucose test!! I had been told I was prediabetic a few months before. I knew nothing about BG levels and just accepted what they told me. I didn't believe I was diabetic so carried on as usual and was told I had 'perfect control' for the next 2 years!! I had no symptoms except that I was fairly tired most of the time. I had gained about a stone, so I put it down to that. (I was already well over weight before the extra stone). I saw the dietitian for a whole year and she was happy as my weight had stayed the same for that year! I had a knee replacement in March last year and lost a stone without even trying. I still had no symptoms and was in still unconvinced that I was diabetic. Then, in March this year I went for my pre op checks to have my other knee replaced. The next morning I got a phone call from the hospital telling me that they could not do my op as my diabetes was out of control and my Hba1c was 82 ! ! (up till then it had been around 48-52). I had been on Metformin for about a year. I am now on 2x 1g of slow release Metformin, 2x gliclazide twice a day and 1x Sitagliptin per day. I am taking my BG up to 8 times a day and, after 3 months and several hypos, I am averaging a BG of between 5 and 6.5 I have also managed to lose another 8Lbs in weight. I won't find out when my knee op might happen until I have a Hba1c done on July 27th. If it's 69 or under, I will be put back on the list. I am still confused about carbs, but I think I must be doing something right as BG has gone down (my worst BG was 23.4). If I had not been given a blood meter early on when I asked for one, I don't know how I would have sorted my BG out!! I was told to only test once a week at first! But I did it a bit more than that some times. I learned a few of the things that put my BG up, and so I watched those foods and kept them to a minimum. But one thing I can't understand is, Why is it that my BG on most morning's is higher than it was before bedtime??
