People who are touchy.......feign indignation at the slightest thing. Hypocrites, bullies and cowards.
Could this be down to all the flyers everybody has been leaving all over the place ? :D

Get more out there folks - this is where advertising can be a great help. This forum is so dynamic, vibrant and alive with great posts !!!

Well it is a good site..

Well when you are not fighting over which diet is bestest

Personally, I think the Guinness and Ginger Biscuit diet is my favourite. closely followed by a tot of Glenfiddich and a strawberry gateaux with whipped cream............mmmmh. :D

Is this likely to affect my Bg levels ? :?

Hi valt.

Glad to hear the Port went down well ? Trust me. :D

Now listen, I know Cornwall is a bit remote from the rest of us but don't you have Tesco and the likes ? Or are you in a little village ? I lived in Bodmin for a while and worked in a town called Lostwithiel for a short time. another world. 8)

Hi Ken, nearest supermarket 10 miles away :? , we live on the North coast, and know Bodmin quite well! Our village which is 3 miles away has a wonderful baker but he is usually sold out of everything[except his pasties  ] by 2.0pm!
Val :) By the way the port makes my life so much more civilised! :D

Sue - I think one of the most important things you could do would be to promote the use of this forum to PCTs.

Doing this would be fairly easy - Just contact all of the Diabetes leads at each PCT. You may not get many takers, but for the few that do, I think it would make it worthwhile.

I only came across this forum as I specifically searched for 'Diabetes Forum'; however there are many that don't even know what a forum is, let alone how to find one. May be worth advertising yourself more.

Don't know if this would work. Th e PCT's promote the NHS/DUK thinking about treatment of Diabetes.

Here's an example of how this works in relation to our flyers.

Approached Patient Advice Centre in a large Hospital near me. Now the flyers were at first taken from me and promised that they would be distributed around the Hospital in several areas. Great - a result ?

Went back a week or so later, no sign of any of the flyers ? Asked same person why none of the flyers were displayed ? Answer : " The Hospital Authorities believe that this forum does not portray a positive image of the NHS and it's Practitioners. Therefore they will not be displayed."

I can envisage the same response from the PCT's with possibly a few exceptions. Why don't you contact the Administrator with your suggestion, maybe they might pursue it ?

I have so far distributed 28 of these flyers, not sure if all the surgeries have taken them down again, I was certainly given permission to pin them up, I met this weekend with a new member of this forum in person, she saw the poster in her local library (we live near each other). I have put up flyers, with permission from landlords in cloak rooms in pubs and clubs as well and newsagents windows.

I am travelling north next month and will take some flyers with me, DUK has never told me that there are alternatives to their dietary approach, that there is flexibility, like so many others, I had to find out for myself from various other sources. This forum is good, diabetics need to be informed, they also need support, encouragement and caring, and yes, even debate and discussion have a place and all this is available in this forum.

Thank you everybody

Val - fantastic! good for you :D

Ken et al - My DN suggested I use this site when I was diagnosed as useful for getting information and meeting others like me!!?? (nothing like singling us out then!) Mind you she is fairly forward thinking, I am very lucky we seem to have some good well informed specialists and GP's on the Island. She even accepted my Lower Carb methods dare I say those words on here.... I'm sure if I could have an electronic link / copy of whatever these flyers you mention are, then I could get displayed at our Hospital.

When I told my diabetic nurse, who is normally very pleasant, that I was getting information from this forum the temperature dropped like a stone into a well. Her opinion is that I would be ill advised to take advice from people who are not and I quote "au fait" with the disease  .this by the way from someone who tells me to "carb up"  I wish she could have diabetes just for a month, and then tell me that! Don't think she will be wanting the flyers.

I can see that some of the comments, even if said in ject could be off putting to teh NHS or the PTCs.

It is a shame as this forum is very helpful.

I like to sit back and see the war between the low and the non-low carbers :)
