Also, I don't think Dr H is doing anything to bad. We work at a bar and regularly have a free drink.

I assume that is with the bar owners permission, I used to have a shop, which is now closed down, and I've had staff and customers who don't realise that any loss means you have to sell a lot more just to recoup the lost money.

Anything that'll wake us up before noon on a weekend...
To be honest, it just sounds like cr*p legislation that's ended up with him having easy access to test strips.

And yes, I incredibly hungover. I woke up in the bath at six this morning and I havent seen Eoin all morning... I blame the 13 pints of Guinness we supped in a period of about 3 hours...

Edit: like were going tell the bar manager. He fired our friend giving out notes as change instead of euro coins.

Having just read this the thing that stands out to me is that someone has expressed that they are so stressed that it is making them ill and no-one, apart from one person, has responded to that: in fact it almost seems like several people have possibly made this person feel worse. I was very stressed recently on 'here' and you can get emotional but I dont ever think it helps to all turn on one person especially when they have openly expressed how stressed they are.
React against me, as I feel stronger now. but please dont kick people when they down, surely we are here for support as well as information.
Vikingepigen, I hope you ok, and I hope you return, you were really kind to me when I first started on this forum and was in a state myself, so thanks.

Here here Red. I agree.

I am new to this forum and have been questioning whether its a good idea to stick around or not. I get very little response to any questions or posts i make apart from a couple of kind people. I think its mainly due to a lot of posters here trying to outsmart each other all the time instead of trying to support and help people.
As with a lot of forums, when you have been on it a while you make friends and enemies, but its sometimes wise to sit back and realise that new people who come along deserve to be acknowledged and welcomed into the fold.
I am very very lonely right now as i have onl just moved back to England and have very little support. It would be nice at least to make some online friends to chat to who understand what it is like to live my life with this disease.
Not all of us are psuedo intellectuals looking to point score!!

Sorry for the rant but it makes my blood boil.

Which questions, we'd be happy to help :D

We do think there's a culture of oneupmanship on the forum, but we think it's all stemming from this low-carb/not low-carb debate... Anyway, we'll search your previous posts and try and find some we can help with :D

In an effort to drag this one back on topic..

I have my annual checkup coming up in a few weeks (My bloods etc. will be taken on Friday this week) and I was wondering; Should we canvas the opinion of our diabetic nurse, Who is probably far more reliable than the actual doctor (In my case my doctor, whose name appear on my prescriptions, is someone I have never met), about which they think is the more useful advice to work with and then post that advice on here so we can all compare results?

It could be a case of one Vs the other for the health care professionals we deal with and I think we're well qualified to help them decide!

NICE guidelines:
Type1 here: http://guidance.nice.org.uk/CG15
Type2 here: http://guidance.nice.org.uk/CG66

Vs

NHS knowledge base data:
(Can't seem to find guidelines for type1 in the search system)
Type 2 Found here: http://www.cks.nhs.uk/diabetes_type_2/management/quick_answers/scenario_managing_glucose_control/clinical_summary_assessment_of_glucose_control/self_monitoring_of_blood_glucose

In my case (Type2) there does appear to be a conflict so I'm going to discuss it with my Diabetic nurse in a few weeks time and let you all know what was said.

I live in Vale of Glamorgan in South Wales and have fantastic care. I see the specialist nurse and doctor at the diabetic unit in a local hospital twice a year and inbetween I go to my local doctor and nurse who specialise in diabetes.

I can have as many strips as I want and always provided with a free testing kit from the hospital once mine appears faulty which does happen after a lot of use.

I am shortly due to go on a nutrition course relating to diabetes which is 2 hours once a week, for 6 weeks, and the advise I have been given previously has been excelllent.

I am horrified to learn of the way some of you are advised and "looked after". I test 3 or 4 times a day, two hours after meals. We all know how serious diabetes can be and the results of bad control on our organs and can only say some of the "care" outlined in this discussion is disgraceful.!!
