Hiya heather, i've been diagnosed since i was 9 and still struggling with control at 16. Although i believe my control has been better, i think this is the first time am eager to see my hba1c.
Nothing exciting or big has happened since i was diagnosed, so please enlighten me with your experience

Hi Heather, you beat me for diagnosis by 3 years! I was 7 but that was back in 1952 and boy, things were bad then. However, I always remember Britain's leading Diabetes expert (I was told) telling me about the importance of balance. It was the key term for type 1s, even the Diabetic Journal was called Balance. It puzzles me now that no one talks like that now. My specialist told me to halve my insulin after I had had a couple of hypos, just to make his life easier and never mind the damage long term that would inflict on me.

I'm Nicola been Type 1 for 17 years diagnosed a week after my first birthday! Recently moved onto the insulin pump and finding that my control has gotten significantly better. Can't wait to see if my next HbA1c is an improvement on my last

Hello Heather, i also was 4 when i became a type 1 but that was 54 years ago, and i also have seen many changes over the years, not always been a fan of the human insulin though i was one of the first in Australia to have to go onto 4 injections a day, because i happened to be different to the norm so my diabetic doctors told me, but now since being put on to Levemir and Nova rapid generally have better control than i ever have, and now taking far less insulin as well. You occasionally get little annoying surprises though, Just came out of hospital after a bladder operation and it has taken me 3 weeks to get back to normal i was shocked that it took me that long. nice to read and chat to you all keep well and keep looking forward because you can not change you past.
Good Luck
Best Regards
Toby

Hi everyone. My son was diagnosed last year aged 7. I do worry for his health in the future and old age. Every time his blood reading is high it stresses me but sometimes you just can't predict it what it will be. I think hormones, growth spurts etc wreck havoc. Do you think the younger you get it the more problems you will have? Do you believe good control will mean no problems?
