Insurance For Pumps

Hello everyone!

Two and a half years in and I've just started with a pump, got it on Monday and I was told I needed to add it to my home insurance...which I don't have. So I've found insurance4insulinpumps.co.uk but I wanted to ask; has anyone used them and made a claim? Do they actually do what they say they will?
Or do you have any other suggestions?

I don't trust insurance companies to come through when you need them. Cynical eh?

The above company is very expensive, most people use their contents ins for cover. If you are in rented accomadation then take out contents ins and cover yourself this way.

I use the company you mention Ljm84 - as Carbsrocks says they're not cheap and I've never had to claim from them so can't comment on their response etc. I just thought as they specialise in this insurance and they say (?) they get a new pump out to you next day even when I'm abroad, that gives me peace of mind. All down to personal choice I and cost I guess - would really be interested to hear from someone who'd actually had to put in a claim though.

I used to have mine covered as a special item with my contents insurance but they didn't really understand it and put a big load on my insurance. I changed to Insurance4InsulinPumps, I like the fact that the guy who set it up has a diabetic daughter on a pump so understands the needs of a pump user, but my main reason was because they also insure a loan pump when you're on holiday. To be totally honest unless your pump gets stolen or lost the makers cover it and the only time it could get stolen or lost is if it's a loaner and so you're not wearing it.

I have epilepsy and insurance4insulinpumps have said that damage caused during a seizure would be covered, that was one of my big worries so I think I'm going to go with them. I can't really afford it but I can't afford to lose this pump either.

It'd be good for all of us to know if they come through when you need them, so if anyone has any tales please tell

To be totally honest unless your pump gets stolen or lost the makers cover it and the only time it could get stolen or lost is if it's a loaner and so you're not wearing it.

It has been known for pumps to be broken which is not covered by warranty.

If you break the pump or damage it then it's your responsibility if it breaks due to manufacturer fault then it's the pumps companies problem.
So make sure you know what you are covered for.

Have been Quoted £7 pm by one of above sites mentioned is this average, or should I look elsewhere.Need to check with house insurance.

PS Only got omnipod yesterday, so filling in paperwork etc. Had great readings last night every 1-2 hrs. But less stable today, high and 1 hypo still got to tailor background ratio. Glad I got some time off work.

Phoned up my house insurance , Santander who said the pump would be covered but then asked would I be taking it outside of the house, when I said that it's a 24/7 relationship she said she would have to look into it, she than asked me if I had paid for the pump, when I said it belongs to the nhs but I would have to pay for it if I damaged it she said they wouldn't insure it because I didn't pay for it, so I ended up paying £6.99 a month from pumps 4 you, I would advise people who have it on their home insurance to check the small print.

Mine is covered as a personal possession, but the insurance company (John Lewis) wanted written confirmation that I was liable for damage or loss. No additional premium unless I wanted to increase the overall personal possessions cover i.e. assuming wife wearing all the posh jewellery, me wearing my most expensive watch (which happens to be my Garmin) and me carrying the pump, and some thug recognising the value of all of these and mugging us for the lot.

I was planning to use insuranceforinsulinpumps when I get my pump later this year. I have read mixed reviews about the coverage on some home ins policies, and i'd rather not increase my home insurance premium if for any reason I need to make a pump claim.

Mine is insured as a separate item on contents ins. I refuse point blank to use the insuranceforpumps as consider the premium excessive.

Mines on my halifax insurance and like philchap1 i was asked whether i would just be wearing it outside. I replied where i go the pump goes 24/7. Theyve put it under personal possessions with an increase of 10p in my premium, but as it such a small increase theyve wavered it. They didnt ask for any proof of ownership.

I've insured with 3 different companies over the years with premium being within a few pounds of each other AXA is the latest insurer.

Got mine covered is apparently already covered under personal possessions on current insurance Aviva did not need to pay extra as covers more than value of pump.thanks to everyone for information/ advice.
