Hi @ally1, have moved your post as you need some advice and it will get lost in the other thread.

Have you got a cold? Are your sleep patterns disrupted?
I am sure others will offer suggestions.

Oh Ally - How frustrating for you. You're having a rough ride with all of this.

If you haven't changed anything, and you're feeling otherwise ill, it might be wise to go back to the Doc and see if there's anything further they can do to support you. :(

I'm sorry to read this, Ally.
As suggested above, are you coming down with something? A cold maybe? This could affect matters. Otherwise, a visit to your GP/nurse might be your best bet.

Acceptance of health treatment claims that are not adequately supported by evidence. I dislike it when people sell ineffective and even harmful alternative health products to exploit the desperation of people with chronic illness.

Hi Ally

I had a look at some of your previous posts and it looks like your fasting blood glucose (BGs) have been around 10 for at least a couple of months. This is too high, my friend.

Fasting BGs should be more like 4-6, to keep the rest of the day's BGs under 8.5, and preferably under 7.8.

Your medication could be increased but it might be better to reduce some carbs in what you are eating.

Hi Ally so sorry to hear your high reading. Only thing I can add is for me I know that stress can put my readings up. I would also urge you to contact Doctor or Nurse. Are your readings high all day or just the morning one?

In defence of Ally - she has had a very long and hard struggle to get down where she is now.

I'm sorry you interpreted my post as critical or negative - it was motivated solely out of concern. I'm quite worried about her. I think the fairest/kindest thing is to be honest. High BGs carry the risk of complications, and if they can't be reduced by low carbing then many would agree that insulin is an option well worth considering. But I didn't suggest that straight off because I'm sure some would criticise me for it. One can't win sometimes.

Ally, I'm sorry to hear about this, I agree with AndBreathe and Bluetit that your best course at the moment would be to seek advice from your GP unless there is an obvious reason such as illness - and even then they should be able to help.

Let us know how you're doing.

You can't be expected to know Ally's history as you haven't been here very long. We have long been worried about her, and there are several long detailed threads back in the past. She knows about carbs and does her very best to keep them down. She is also aware of all the dangers of high BS, particularly as she has been hospitalised for this. Her day time levels are rarely as bad as her fastings. Most people manage and cope very well with insulin, a few others might not.

@ally1 Perhaps it might be wise to give the receptionist a ring and ask what your results were (I take it this was an HbA1c?)

Doctors aren't always the best at contacting us when results come in. The receptionist should tell you what the result was and then you will know exactly where you stand.

I'm new to this and don't want to be seen as knowing very much at all about all this, but as well as the suggestions about something like a cold, what about stress levels? My diabetic nurse talked about this with me one day when she'd been checking blood pressure - and got a reading way higher than normal - saying that BG levels can be affected by stress.

Thank you for providing this information instead of criticising me for something I cannot be expected to know.

If someone doesn't cope well with insulin, but they need it, then I would worry about their future. But yes, if a person doesn't want to go on insulin, that's their choice.

Next time .....

At the bottom of your signature is a link to Blood Sugar 101 - a website I'd not seen before, and I'm glad I now have.

I was interested in this particular thread because most of the time, my highest reading of the day is also the first one, the fasting BG (lots of the other readings are now below what they were, and a lot are now in the target range). So I was interested in learning as much as possible about the dawn phenomena. Blood Sugar 101's been good - a lot of the info wasn't new, but some of the advice was, and it's made me feel more optimistic, with more things to try out.

Some posts on this thread have been edited and some deleted.
If you have personal axes to grind then please do so via PM as I am sure that @ally1 does not want these types of posts in the thread.

Have your sleeping pattern change or you under high stress? Consider these factors they might be contributing to your highs.

Hi Ally1
I am new to posting but have been diabetic for some time now. I was reading your post about high morning BGLs. There are many factors that can affect your levels as others have mentioned. However nobody seems to have mentioned the following. I was in hospital a couple of years ago after collapsing and decided to ? With one of my specialist why I was waking with higher levels than I went to bed with. They told me I was most likely having lows/hypos in the early hours and then my liver was doing a sugar dump. It is known as the dawn phenomenon. They decided to order BGLs at 2 & 3 am and sure enough I was having lows that I was not aware of. it is worth talking to your team about. My diabetes educator also confirmed this
