Nerve damage in feet?

I first went to the doctors with an injury I picked up playing football. My left foot was killing me with sharp pains & it hurt when I walked etc. I had blood tests & was told 6 weeks later I had low sodium levels & they monitored it closer. I then found out I had type 1 diabetes in July this year. I was due to go on holiday with my partner & due to this discovery I wasn't allowed to travel there or to a stag do in magaluf 3 weeks later. I took everything on the chin & after 2-3 month of hospital visits sorted levels & got them under control. I was told they were as high as 55 blood levels. The highest the people in hospital had seen. I had no symptoms to diabetes at all & it hit me hard. I got levels under control to what I think is acceptable. My theory is to get them as low as possible at the time but if I feel they are low (and I think you can tell I have a tracker bar or something). I hall now I'm having physio for my feet as at 1st it was my left foot I injured & im being told I have plantar facicis & I can only think it started from wearing football boots with blade on AstroTurf rather than the trainers id always wore. This was due to playing 11a side for the 1st time in 9 years. It's the hardest thing to take but I've bought the Asics trainers n done a thing called foot disc where it measured my instep n I have an overhang in my instep! The pain of this keeps me awake at night & im hoping physio etc in the next few weeks can help cure whatever this is. Sorry for going on but if any1 has previous of this I'd like a bit on info

Does anyone have any problem with nerve damage in feet? Any idea what it feels like? I'm having some sort of problem in my feet - about to see the dr. tomorrow. Quite worried about it.

MM.
I have been Type 2 for over 20 years. For the last year or so I have Neuropathy in both feet - this has been confirmed. Sometimes my feet are painful, sometimes numb, sometimes the 'cotton wool' feeling, also pain in one big toe. I take 600mg Gabapentin 3 times a day, which helps. Neuropathy will never go away. We have to learn to live with it, just as we have to with other Diabetic symptoms and many other health problems many of us have.

Okay. I saw the doctor and am being referred for an ultrasound on both feet, as one is particularly bad, and the other shows signs of a similar problem. At the outset, he stated that the top of the feet for Morton's neuroma usually hurt also, and my left foot does. But he said it usually hurt more than it did. Frankly, it hurts enough. Surgery is the answer to this, apparently. It's like a calloused nerve that's blown up. I hope it's not that, but as for diabetic neuropathy...I've only had diabetes for 3.5 years, so he says it's too early for neuropathy. So...there we go. That's what I know.

Hi I have had two mortons neuromas one on each foot. I saw a specialist but never had any scans the surgeon immediately knew what they were from an examination. I had them both removed in hospital day surgery in two separate operations.

They typically appear between the third and forth toe and are apparently rare. It is even more rare for them to appear between the 2nd and 3rd toe which is where mine where. To have one is rare to have one on each foot is extremely rare particularly between the 2nd and 3rd toe. They are excruciating and I would defy anyone to be able to continue walking during a flair up. They flair up with no warning and I often found myself out shopping and had to take off my shoes and walk without them. The pain is more on top of the foot with numbness on the ball of the foot. If it's a mortons neuroma you can illicit pain by pressing hard between the joint of the toes where the pain is (in my case half inch from bottom of scar) The neuroma is no bigger than a grain of rice but the doctor said its like having a pea trapped inside a piece of cotton, the cotton being the nerve!

I've included a picture and the pain I had was about half an inch from the bottom of the scar you can see in the picture. At the time I didn't have any problems with my feet but have since developed fallen arches/ flat feet, with no explainantion from the doctors although neuropathy has been mentioned (awaiting further tests) The recovery time from the operation was 12 weeks on each foot and I've had no problems since.

I've actually written about it before on the forum but no hope of find where!

If it's a mortons neuroma try not to be worried, I had mine removed under local anaesthetic and the recovery time is so you don't damage the nerves while you're healing. image.jpeg

My feet feel as if cotton wool or something else soft was stuffed under my toes. Sometimes one of my big toes is painful for a short time. The GP and DN are not interested since these symptoms aren't on their check list for neuropathy. It doesn't affect my balance and has been the same for over a year so I don't bother with it either.

Hi . I have the same problem . At first it felt like my socks had ruffled up Unser my toes . But when I take my socks of it still feels like I'm walking on a lumpy floor . Did you ever see your doctor about this problem . I'm thinking of seeing mine

This is arriving very late at the party and may not now be relevant, so please forgive me! I had neuropathy in one of my feet but since switching to the LCHF diet, have very rarely had any problem with it at all. It's honestly been like a miracle - it was so painful, I'd just cry.

Sending all wishes for a good outcome for you.

My feet feel very stiff and tight and my toes seem to crunch when I wiggle them. Anyone have any idea what causes this?

Hi Blueberry14, welcome to the forum, yes if you are diabetic t1 or t2, you can get neuropathy in any part of your body , most people get retinal,or neuropathy in their feet, this is due to elevated bs levels causing nerve damage ....which if remadial action isn't taken can result in lost limbs and blindness and heart failure ( vegus nerve that controls the hearts electrical pulse) i had really bad foot neuropathy in my feet , it felt like walking on broken glass, this only subsided and finally cured ,when my lchf fat regime helped me lose 4st 8 lbs and my bsdropped from 26.8 to todays average of 4.0 mmols, but i never forget that it could return if i relax my control of my bs's. My DN told me that me having hairy feet ( on the joints, not all over...) is a good sign that all is well...as each hair follicle has a blood supply...
Not at all sure if this is correct, as this is the same lady who insisted that I eat LESS protein and MORE carbs.

I've recently had an EMG in order to confirm that the numbness in my right hand is due to a compressed cervical disc....thankfully all was better than great, in terms of any signs of neuropathy.
