People who think they know everything.
Tomorrow morning I have to see my GP about a knee problem which, as far as I know, isn't related to diabetes. This is the doctor who is supposed to be the diabetes specialist for the surgery and is the senior partner. I had asked to see another doctor but got diverted to this one just in case my dodgy knee happens to be diabetes related.

I am facing two problems, firstly he seems to intensively disapprove of low carbing and, when I mentioned I might try it, made me feel like a naughty 14 years old caught smoking behind the bike shed AND somehow he manages to turn every ailment in to being caused by diabetes. God knows what he's going to say when he finds out I've stopped injecting Landis and Novorapid.

I just want my knee sorted out not a lecture on 'proper' diabetes control.

Wish me luck.:confused::cyclops:

I've also seen a letter to GP about doing a low carb diet. Maybe you could print that out to take with you.
Low carb is fully supported by diabetes.co.uk.

Well Good luck. :) Tell your doctor that there is a new low carb program which is being run by DCUK, so it is suitable for diabetics! An organisation like this wouldn't endorse low carbing if it wasn't safe and effective. If he would like to join he could have a look at it himself (there's a letter for people to take to their GP in the first session). The link is:- www.diabetes.co.uk/lowcarb

I don't see how any GP could have a problem with their patients taking an interest in their own health.

Yes @cocacola is that the letter in the low carb program?

My GP doesn't, but he's sceptical about low carb. Some HCPs though are all happy about better numbers and then when you mention low carb, they deflate. They want their way to work !

Yes I was going to put a link, but couldn't find it again. I've registered for the program.

It didn't go too bad. He started on about diabetes (as usual). Having just had to wait half an hour crammed in to a small area full of people explosively sneezing or with hacking coughs I wasn't in the mood to be obsequious - so I just said I wasn't there to talk about diabetes but about the horrible pain in my knee which is impacting on my job and keeping me awake at night. He looked a bit stunned then said he'll refer me to the orthopaedic department at the hospital. Result!

And to think we endure that for a flu jab. I wonder what would happen if I went for my next HbA1c wearing a face mask?
Nice result there @Chook btw.

I've been registered with this doctor's surgery for more than 15 years and I've never seen so many people there with such horrendous coughs and colds. Must be an epidemic of some sort. As my husband commented, we are bound to catch something because the majority of the people coughing or sneezing weren't covering their mouths or noses, including the man just behind us. Ewww!
