Insuman Comb25

Hi,
My name is Chrissie and for the last 8 years I have been Type 2 Diabetic controlled by medication for the first 5. 3 years ago my diabetic specialist in France prescribed Victoza which worked extremely well and I also lost over a stone! Recently I had a partial kidney operation but had to go back a month later for completion. On presenting for the second part the anaesthetist refused to participate saying my sugars were too high (they were the same as the readings the month before for the first operation). My doctor/diabetic nurse prescribed insulin as the only means of reducing it. I still dispute this and feel that a tweak in medication may have also done the trick. Started on Lantus, once a day on 8th October and two weeks later my sugar readings were in the twenties and thirties so it was changed to Insuman Comb25 twice a day and four weeks later with the units now at 38 twice a day my readings for the most part are still in double figures and worse than when I was on meds. Yesterday it hit single figures for the first time on this insulin but this morning back to double figures again. This is so frustrating as I am still unable to have my operation and beginning to feel that I have been put on insulin needlessly as I would have expected results by now. - my diet is ok - How are other people managing? What is the "average" unit amount for each injection, as I have been unable to get this information from my GP surgery? Any help from others would be appreciated.

I was in combo 25 and I couldn't control my sugars either, I moved on to a different type and now inject humilin in the morning and the evening and inject novo raped when I eat. Why not try the carbs and cals app it shows what carbs are in what food it's a real eye opener.

Good luck

Hi. Yup - frustrating is not the word, eh? You say your diet is ok. What is your diet? One or two changes (if not already made) could make a huge difference. Also, are you on any kind of steroids? My kidney operation was a transplant - so steroids were prescribed and they "caused" the diabetes and still cause problems. Just wondered.

If you are having no luck with the medication side of things maybe a tweak in diet may help. What do you generally eat in a typical day as what you may consider to be an ok diet may not be so great. I thought I was doing well with all the fruit I was eating only to find out how wrong I was.
