Interesting stuff,
I was diagnosed type 1 age 45 in May this year. I've suffered with hypos since my early 20's, always carried gluco tabs with me, couldn't eat breakfast or I'd crash 2 hrs later. I've told my DSN and the consultant but they didn't seem interested or concerned.
My hypo's have stopped since I went on insulin unless it's a hypo caused by a calculation error with my carbs.
I always suspected I'd be diagnosed with diabetes.
I'm going to push for more info at my next consultant appointment.

Hi Naomi I am sorry to hear your having quite a battle on you hands. If it helps my best friend at school had the same thing. His was due to over exercising so he found eating more medium g I food helped him with more healthy snacks as he shock terribly.

You may have reactive hypoglycemia. BG above 11.1mmol/L and BG below 3.5 or less mmol/l. Ask for a 6hr OGTT.

Please can posters make sure they're not offering diagnoses. It is up to a medical professional to do that as they have the full medical history and knowledge.

Hi Azure, I certainly wasn't implying any diagnosis just pointing out the limitations of HbA1c across the spectrum of diabetic states, IFG,IGT bloodsugar disregulation etc. And suggesting see the doc and ask for appropriate tests.

No problem, Blip22. We all need to be very careful about what medical info we put as medical statements are best left to the professionals :)

Hi @Blip22

As you can see from my signature (below) I have RH and you are correct that it can only be diagnosed by tests.
What experience do you have on how to treat the condition?. I would be interested in your opinion.

You can pm me, if you want!

Many thanks,

After reading books by the American specialist regarding RH - I have come to believe that the 6 hour GTT is the most accurate way for diagnosing RH. But GP's keep telling us that they have stopped using that now and prefer the HB1Ac test. But I see that has a monitoring tool, and not a good initial tester. Am I right in thinking that the Hb1Ac just lets us know how we are doing with our diet really. Anyone got any clues how we get the 6 hour GTT test. Has anyone been tested with this recently by their GP in England?
