Hi heretic 1. I too am a newby and it's not easy finding your way around us it. However I have a soda stream unit that I have had since kids were small. The water you use is tap water and there are many flavours available to try including zero carb flavours. Check their website for more info. Concentrates strong so don't use much. Good luck. Kate
