    Don't worry, just add specific information when you post to the forum.

    Thanks. I'm glad you find the forum helpful. Our experience as diabetics can be more useful than medical professionals who are not diabetics.

    I don't think so. Suggest you post in the open forum. Mods don't have all the answers. Sorry.
    Hi - is it possible to buy the glycogen emergency packs from anywhere? My partner is type 1 diabetic and had a seizure recently when we were out and it has scared me hugely. We had to call an ambulance and I know that I will worry less if I can get hold of one of the kits. I imagine I will need to go to a GP however...Many thanks

    I am informed:
    Not sure if you can buy them in the UK but they are available on prescription from a gp or diabetes consultant,

    Hello Ian, I am a 3rd year Health and Human Sciences student at Durham University. I am at the moment completing my final year dissertation investigation members views on their participation in internet forums and self help groups. I was wondering if it would be allowable to post a link to a short online survey I have prepared for your members to complete.

    Kind Regards

    Hello Ian, a couple of months ago, I had a phone call from Diabetes UK inviting me to a Diabetes Day +Lunch in Waltham Forest, London on 2nd October 2014, they took my name and booked me in but never gave the venue address. Is there any way I can contact them as I need to cancel as it clashes with my college days.

    hi Ian the only reason I m worried doing urine strips everyday and they are 1.1. My BG I take fasting about the 6 mark and throughout the day two hrs after eating 6.4 and 7.4 I tend to end the day at 7.8 . My nurse said my I was 74 on the scale she wants me 53 ?

    I've never used urine strips - they are not sensitive enough - I believe they only register at a sugar level of above 10. Some have suggested using them to check whether supposed sugar free drinks are sugar free - when you get draft cola in a pub.

    Your own BG readings look OK -the nurse's readings are HbA1c (2-3 month average) 74 = 8.9% & is too high,
    53 = 7.0% & is the maximum recommended.
    You questions are best asked on the forum. My experience is limited.

    Why are you worried? - ketones are dangerous if you have very high blood glucose resulting in "ketoacidosis" .
    What is your HbA1c?
    Do you measure BG & get high readings - above 20 (or above 400) 'cos if you do, you need to report to your Dr or to A & E.

    Ketones are not dangerous if you are on a low carb diet.

    Any advice we can give is based on experience & is no substitute for professional advice.
