    Locum Trouble

Definitely report them - that's shocking. Can you get a blood test organised with one of the nurses? They can check out your circulation at the same time.

What was your diagnosis experience like?

An ex-colleague recently told me she'd been to the walk in clinic twice with her young son who was a text book case of type 1 only to be told he had a virus. Thankfully in the end she followed her intuition and took him to A&E. So still problems in 2024 with Drs recognising type 1

What was your diagnosis experience like?

In my early 40s, it was summer so drinking a lot seemed fine (& then obviously needing the toilet a lot because I was drinking a lot). I also started losing weight and I didn't really have much to lose - so having more sugary stuff to help the weight gain. My friend had been away for a couple of...

    Virtual GP appointment misdiagnosed me

Many, many years ago I was convinced I'd had an odd allergic reaction to a shower gel. Back then you could only see a GP in person. He took a look and instantly diagnosed shingles - I doubt I'd have got that response from an online consultation even if I'd bothered to try and navigate the system.

Is anyone else EXHAUSTED by this disease??

CGM has helped no end but yes, it's exhausting. The CGM told me my blood sugars were spiking into the high teens overnight while I was asleep. So I'd go to bed on 7/8 and wake up on 7/8 and just feel shattered. Now I know this rise happens I'll take 1/2 unit before bed & it has really helped...

    Faulty Tresiba vial

A cracked one yes - whole packet had been dropped I think so I binned them.

    GETTING WORRIED NOW!!

Hypos are a part of having type 1 diabetes I'm afraid! Just keep some glucose tablets or haribos with you and if you drop below 4 have a couple. It is completely possible to have the same meal two days in a row with the same insulin dosage and your body react differently. Hormones, exercise...

    Tresiba Low

I can't quite remember the details but when I was first prescribed tresiba my nurse warned me it came in two strengths and to make sure I was given the right one. 7 years on I am clueless as to what the right one is and just assume I'm given it every time - any chance your pens are a stronger...

Libre2 Skin Damage Over Time a Concern

I think if you can use both arms then it's possible to give areas quite a long break from the libre - just make sure you don't stick in the same area it was last time I prefer any damage on my arm to the state my fingers were getting in

Grocery List for Low Carb Snacks & Food

It's quite hard work. My levels go through the roof in the middle of the day if I eat carbs but plummet at about 4 if I have insulin on board so low carb lunches help. Making your own helps but otherwise cheese, slices of ham, nuts (some of the nut based protein bars are ok), eggs, chicken legs.

T1 short acting insulin taking hours to work tried three.

Sorry - misunderstood post #10 where you said you take a maximum of 14 units. Sounded like it wasn't enough.

    Struggling

Try and remember that when you're stressed your blood sugars rise and that in itself makes you feel awful. You have a huge amount to deal with at the moment and I'm not surprised you feel overwhelmed. One step at a time..... Have you taken your long lasting insulin? Don't aim for perfection...

    Levels not going down

You sound like you aren't taking enough insulin for the food you are eating. If your weight is ok then the diabetes team need to help you adjust the insulin doses. If you need to lose weight then try dropping the carb intake and you will hopefully find the hba1c drops too. Do you have a CGM?

T1 short acting insulin taking hours to work tried three.

I'm a bit confused as to why you're taking set amounts of fast acting. If I wake up high then I increase my usual breakfast dose by 1 unit. I check again mid morning to see if I need a correction dose. I can take anything from 2-5 units for lunch based on what I'm eating. I need to dose early...

    Newly diagnosed

I was diagnosed at 43 but I went downhill pretty quickly so they got me on insulin. Are you in the UK? If so push to be under the care of your local hospital and not the GP. They prefer to start insulin earlier because it has been shown to take pressure off the pancreas. I needed tiny doses in...

Potential Type 1.5 misdiagnosed as a Type 1

It sounds like you were correctly diagnosed at 20 (I'm LADA but diagnosed at 43) and now they have decided to see whether this new drug will help as you were taking such a large amount of insulin. It'll be good to hear how you get on.

    Daughter just diagnosed

One of the best ways of tracking how your daughter responds to meals / snacks / dosages etc is to keep a diary. It's hard work but really helpful for the diabetes teams in adjusting dosages. Does she have a glucose monitor or are you doing finger pricks?

Feeling a bit fed up with it all......here follows the pity party

I'm type 1 (& would think 8 was fabulous!!) but just wanted to say that the testing strips aren't so accurate that you should get worried by variations of 8.8 to 8.2. Just think of it as 'in the 8s' There are loads of things outside food that can influence blood sugars and with CGMs being used...

Do i have a uncommon Lada?

I didn't know until I got the libre that I crash in the early hours. I never wake and obviously my liver must dump glucose at some point before my 6am alarm because my waking levels were fine. Explained the bad sleep and headaches which I was blaming on hormones. I've pulled back massively on my...

constantly tired and serious lack of energy

I'm just into my 7th year and can categorically say it's had a huge impact on my energy levels. I suppose it's only to be expected given we can't replicate all those tiny adjustments our bodies used to do but I find it very depressing.
