Alcohol as a BG lowering agent

It has taken me a while to return to this thread (sorry!) but it has been a fascinating read! When training (as a doctor although ultimately specialising in psychiatry) I was told to advise diabetics to eat one bag of crips for every pint of beer they drank in order to avoid hypos...

Alcohol as a BG lowering agent

Nooo I had massive success on keto, but couldn't sustain that eay of living beyond 2 (3?) years. I was so bored. I now, since writing this post, eat low carb but find it enormously limiting in social situations e.g. I have just come back from a garden party at which I could only eat the...

Alcohol as a BG lowering agent

Wow. You are really organised! I seem in other ways to buck the typical trend (e.g. dawn effect, increased BG with exercise) so who knows? Perhaps I should keep better records!

Alcohol as a BG lowering agent

Hahaha. Diabetic nurse is hard enough to see. No diabetic doctor! But it's not that I think it's a good idea as such, just interesting

Alcohol as a BG lowering agent

Aaah. I knew that and gave it up, alongside cider ☹

    Insulin type 2

At what point do people end up on insulin as a type 2? I just can't tolerate carbs to any significant degree. Each meal I have about 15g max and I teeter on the verge of ketosis just to stay with good levels. Going into ketosis is not an option. I don't just get keto 'flu anymore, I get keto...

    Ketosis and animals

Interesting replies, thank you. I had noticed dogs allowing me to stroke them or lean over them and owners saying that they didn't normally let people do that. The wolf was a visit to a wolf centre, (nothing brave and wild!) where a group of us got to walk out with one. Beforehand it had to give...

    Ketosis and animals

Has anyone else found dogs (and a wolf for me) are more accepting of you once you are in ketosis?

    Gliclazide replaced by Jardiance

I've been on it for several years. I thought I had a UTI once, but now think it was urgency secondary to high BG

    Sweeteners

I use Natvia which I think is erythritol and stevia combined. It's the best I've found but isn't terribly easy to get hold of e.g. Sainsburys don't stock it

I shall have to cook with the little bottles of red wine I've bought, and ration the accompanying pasta - lots of sauce instead

Alcohol as a BG lowering agent

I have reduced my carbs so far and felt rough, but bearable. I may be able to cut down further again. It's certainly worth a try. I didn't know that alcohol only delays the increase in BG. It did seem too good to be true! I'm glad I posted as I've learnt something useful.

Alcohol as a BG lowering agent

Hello Rachox. I don't have an alternative to the Victoza at present. I have about 3 days left and hope the pharmacy has some by then as they owe me 2 pens. What is your back up plan, if you don't mind me asking?

Alcohol as a BG lowering agent

Hello ianf0ster. I'm actually quite serious. I've tried the other methods without success (in the end I decided the special cinnamon must be a scam!). I have also gone keto several times, with the flu getting worse each time, and know/have all the required supplements but they aren't enough any...

Alcohol as a BG lowering agent

Is anyone else finding that they can only enjoy anything with carbs if they pair it with an alcoholic drink? I'm struggling to eat anything with even just a few carbs without my BG shooting up (it'll only get worse once I run out of Victoza too). I get carb flu really, really badly so going low...

    Victoza Shortage

Same here. It's a knock on effect from the shortage of Ozempic.

    Ozempic Supply Shortage

Worse still, I've just been told I can't have my Victoza as the knock on from Ozempic shortages has now resulted in Victoza being given to people instead of Ozempic. To be honest, I'm not even convinced these drugs result in lasting weight loss for the people using them for such. When I miss my...

    Freestyle Libre 3

I suspect, once GlucoRx have fixed some of the problems with their cgm Aidex, it might become the NHS choice as it is significantly cheaper than the competition. My current sensor is working well and the app glitches have settled. It can also be recalibrated.

    In love with Victoza (liraglutide)!

I just wanted to say that this stuff has changed my life! I've gone from an HbA1c of 72 to an estimated one in normal range in only a few weeks. I'm using the GlucoRx Aidex so I can see just what is happening and I only briefly creep over 9 if I have porridge. Otherwise my levels are between 3.8...
