Continuous Glucose Monitor Use and Tips

I'm prediabetic and was diagnosed with a HbA1c of 45 in late Jan 24. My retest on 18 Jul 24, shows it's now 43, which is promising. I aim to get it to 37 by September and the GP has requested a retest in 3 months, so mid-October 24'ish. I have purchased a Libre 3 CGM to monitor my BG. I have...

    Blood glucose monitors

That's an impressive BMI and waist measurement! Regarding white rice/oats, try it. If your bg spikes to an unacceptable level at the 2-hour mark (post-eating), then leave it out of your diet until your HbA1c is back in the normal range. If you decide to eat small amounts of white rice or oats...

    pre-diabetes, fasting blood sugars.

Sorry for not replying sooner @Helen H :) The program I'm on is Liva. I'm doing okay - not much weight loss but building muscle due to strength training at the gym 3 times a week and daily walks of up to 6km. I've been following a low-carb approach but need to up my healthy fats again as my...

Home blood prick tests - a waste of time?

The finger prick test gives you a read of your blood glucose at a single point in time - naturally, this varies according to your food intake and activity. The GP HbA1c test is a measure of your average blood glucose over the previous 12 weeks so tends to be a better marker of your blood...

NHS Preventing Type 2 Diabetes service

My previously good HbA1c (42 in June 2023) tipped in to the prediabetic zone (45 in Jan 2024) and I was offered the Liva programme for prediabetes. While the aim is for me to lose weight, exercise more and get my HbA1c back in range, I'm 3 months in and despite my request for an HbA1c test to...

Thanks @ajbod - I kinda suspected that may be the case. I love Dr. David Unwin - I was a member of the phcuk.org so I'll take a look at their resources and the LC ones on DietDoctor.com. Need to get my LC ducks in a row :)

    Shirataki noodles?

I really like the Sea Tangle Noodle Company, Kelp Noodles - they can be a bit hard to come by but delicious if you can get them and they're very low carb.

    The Miserable Itch

@TOnline Just wanted to suggest Dermol 500 to use as a shower gel/soap/moisturiser to ease the itching, until you get to the cause of the problem. It is available on prescription but also over the counter at any pharmacy :) Also, while reduced HDL cholesterol is considered a positive marker, it...

    pre-diabetes, fasting blood sugars.

Hello! I've just tipped into the pre-diabetic range (45 mmol/L) having kept it under control for the past 4 years or so. I have been referred to the NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme (Liva) and I'm looking forward to speaking to my health coach this Friday. I also have a Libre 3 CGM, as I find...

    libre sensors

I'm doing the same starting today. Not had a problem so far. I did use both alcohol wipes to ensure my skin was oil-free and dry before applying the sensor.
