Libre 2 Plus availability plus cracked Novorapid Penfill cartridges

Following a call to Novonordisk I returned a faulty cartridge to them and asked to be copied on their report. As expected they found no problem with the manufacture of the cartridge so side-stepped the problem. It never happens does it!

Confused whether Type 1 or Type 2

Your surgery isn't trying hard enough. My surgery uses SystmOnline and staff can add notes onto the system including a new diagnosis of T1. You are obviously T1 with a positive GAD, hospital DKA etc. The NHS doesn't officially recognise LADA/T1.5 - only T1 or T2. That's a problem I also have but...

    Metformin to treat LADA?

I I didn't mention in my earlier post that I am on Metformin with my insulin as my previous DN suggested I should take it anyway because of it's other protective properties. I did stop it for while to check the effect and the lack of it increased my typical BS reading by 1 mmol - not...

    Metformin to treat LADA?

Hi. Metformin is unlikely to help much with LADA and not worth taking with insulin. The important thing is to focus on how you use and dose with the Basal & Bolus. GPs and consultants don't really like doing C-Peptide tests. The blood one requires the tube to be kept cold etc and one I had was...

    pioglitazone

Hi, yes Pioglitazone does have some side effect risk. As there are now other drugs introduced after Pio I would suggest you are prescribed one of the newer drugs citing the Pio side effects. May be your GP is not up to date in his/her knowledge?

    A1C won't go down

Sounds like you should be having some diabetes meds?

    Cholesterol

Hi. I would only accept going onto statins if you are told your results. You can find them if you are able to login to your surgery IT system. If you don't have access then ask for that. As others have said there are a lot of discussions about blood cholesterol on the web and on this forum...

    Insulin being rationed?

Sounds like the problem is with the surgery. I don't have that problem with mine. I can order my insulin every 3 weeks so can gradually build-up a stock if needed but the order is for 5 cartridges enough for more than month anyway. Talk to the Practice Manager or the surgery PPG team.

    Full fat?

If you do some deep research on the web you will find that there is no real evidence that (full) fat is harmful for us in terms of heart disease and in fact fat is good for us in many ways.

    Need help as still confused

Hi as others have said, keep the carbs down and have enough fats and proteins to keep you feeling full.

    Changing of insulin

Hi. If you are really a T1 then you should probably be on the Basal/Bolus regime using two different insulins i.e Basal & Bolus. This should give better control at the expense of more injections - your choice

Libre 2 Plus availability plus cracked Novorapid Penfill cartridges

A couple of current problems. First my pharmacy cannot currently get hold of any Libre 2 Plus sensors but can get Libre 2. Has anyone else hit this problem? Secondly a few months back a few Novorapid cartridges cracked in use in the NovoPen 6. I reported this to the pharmacist and after bit of...

Want to stop taking Dapagflozin but struggling to get Diabetes Clinic onboard.

Hi. Having the typical MDI insulin mix i.e. Basal & Bolus gives the most flexibility and good BS control once you learn dosage etc. Not going low carb in case you go hypo with the Dapa is the wrong way round. The usual advice is to have the right diet to suit your weight and BS and to take meds...

Type 2 Hospitalisation and blood glucose

Did your husband have any steroids while in hospital? Note that hospital food is cheap and unhealthy. It will have been high in carbs. Did he gain weight whilst in hospital as this can cause an increase in insulin resistance and hence blood sugar.

Newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes

Hi. Try 85% Dark chocolate. It's much lower in Carbs and you do get used to it.. Have enough fat and protein in your diet as these keep you feeling full and reduce the desire for carbs. Be a little careful about the diet advice from the dietician as, sadly, many haven't a clue.

    Insulin requirements constantly changing

Hi. Yes I have the same problem and assume that some things trigger the pancreas to behave in different ways day to day. None of the usual 'rules' explain my variations so I've learned to live with it. If I underestimate the carbs I'm eating and hence my BS goes high into the high teens no...

Newly diagnosed - what should I expect (NHS)?

As a general rule have enough proteins and fats to keep you feeling full and keep the carbs down. A daily total of 150gm carbs is a good target to start with and this can be reduced if you still have excess weight or poor BS control.

    Newly diagnosed

Most meter manufacturers will send you a free meter as they want you to buy their strips. Ask your surgery what their preferred meter is as they may then prescribe the strips for it as my surgery. You don't need to use the hospital meter unless there is something pecial about it

    Type 1 about insulin

Hi and welcome. I expect you will receive many replies. Normally short-acting insulins such as Novorapid are given before the meal to allow time for it to work ready for the food. There is no fixed rule but I will inject perhaps 15 minutes before the meal. It is likely after a while that your...

Do I need to phone 111

Hi. Are you currently having a low-carb diet and seriously restricting the carbs until you've been able to see a medic?
