    30th Diaversary

Hi All This week marks mark 30th year as a type 1 having being diagnosed aged 8. I decided to celebrate this (I heard they used to give certificates out) the cake is a 2 finger salute to the condition and a celebration. It can be a challenge and frustration but it can become a normality and as...

    Omnipod in N/W England

Wythenshaw (South Manchester) hospital offers it. I self-referred from my previous hospital Stepping Hill (Stockport) (which had dreadful diabetic care) and at the time invested in a Libre to start sharing why I felt a pump (could have been any) offered better control. After a few meetings, a...

    Type1. Anxiety and Depression

8 years ago I had a hypo with a group of friends (abroad in a tourist place) that needed me to go to hospital. Nothing in the short term and then two years ago what I would describe as panic attacks when waiting in queues like airport or supermarket which had me looking for where I could get...

    Fed up :-(

Welcome! I have been type 1 for 25 years and have had a similar frustration and was confused by the views of diabetic specialist nurses at GP more so than hospital. I too have been recommend for a pump but found that funding in different areas causes difference and that there is almost a script...

    fruit

I agree, I find anything which is more of a juicy fruit does the same for me, with the non juicy exception of bananas which I just find really difficult to estimate.

    fruit

Does a kiwi way 100g? Open question, I would assume less maybe 50g. In the other link 100g of kiwi was 15g of carbs so 50g is 7.5 but honestly no idea how much it weighs.

    fruit

Kiwi's are about 0.5g of carbs each. I find bananas difficult to judge due to both size and ripeness. I was always told honeydew melon was carb free (but never tested the results)

    Finding Employment With Type 1

Awesome! I still stick to my point £10 a time of 3 is smaller fry compared to trip in ambulance, a&e and Glucose sailine mix plus staffing etc. Perhaps recommend the NHS shop at the local supermarket for more competitive glucose gel pricing which could be the reason the whole institution is in...

    Finding Employment With Type 1

Its a **** in the ocean compared to a pump, other long term control medicines or prevention so the NHS can easilly afford glucogel. Personally I dont get it on prescription (lucazade or gluco juice are my weapons of choice) but the OP had mentioned cash flow issues. What the NHS cannot afford is...

    Finding Employment With Type 1

Glucogel is all you need to treat a hypo and is available on prescription. You can also ask a diabetic specialist nurse or dietition at the diabetic clinic and they will have some to give to you. Failing that and due to your budgeting buy a 1kg bag of sugar (approx £1)and and eat 3-5 tea spoons...

    Life Insurance

I was 31 when I took it out 2 years ago on a 30 year term. Maybe shop around or call competitors to haggle.

    Life Insurance

I pay £12 a month with Aviva as a male T1 of 24 years, who is otherwise in good health but drives and gets flights regularly. I was declined the first time though due to my GP records being incorrect, so once GP ammend, I was approved.

Due to start pump therapy.... five days to go!

Hi Rich You have my sympathy. I've had diabetes 25 years and have last week been referred for a pump. The only advice I can give is as the above post, find a good consultant and build a case. My situation if that helps you build a case: I do not fit NICE criteria. I have a hba1c of 5.5 in old...

    driving Licence Renewal

Just be cautious with your words. They ask on the form and will ask for your medical records if needed. So you may need to explain the situation with not seeing someone for over a year, maybe add a written note or any evidence of trying to get an appointment, as you do not want to make them...

    FREESTYLE LIBRE ON SALE!!!!

Does anyone know of a way of entering data after a scan. The option to put e.g food or insulin in only appears valid for a short time after a scan and you can't amend it in the log files after a certain amount of time, meaning a new scan is needed but that may be an hour after the event.

    Working with Diabetes

I agree with torqpenderloin. My mother tried to educate the teachers, parents and kids in my school when I was diagnosed and it makes people view you differently and as you say give no sugar foods etc . Since my working life started I mention I have it to HR, I eat normally including sugar...

    DAFNE course

I believe you have been advised correctly but not given the solution. I have also been informed lantus lasts 24 hours but that will vary from person to person and it probably drops off before then, so 18 hours seems about right. It shouldn't therefore be split as you would need to know how much...

    DAFNE course

I can't recall how it is funded, but when I attended DAFNE, a sales rep from one of the meter companies brought in a buffet lunch as it was of benefit to them to do so. I'm not sure if the pharma companies part fund it, but maybe ask if you can have a sponsored place from whoever makes your...
