    Overwhelmed

Hazel, as Daisy's reply has suggested, you've come to the right place for information, views, opinions and (probably most valuable of all) experiences. My advice is to read, read, read ....... and then read some more. Don't be tempted to do this too quickly, and take time off from it now and...

How long should I wait / endure

I'm just starting my second pack of 84 x 500 mg tablets ( @ 2/day) and the only problem I had was last week when, feeling by now a seasoned veteran and totally invulnerable, I took one without food. I always take them right in the middle of a meal, but I was in a hurry and reasoned that I had...

    alcohol

I find dry red wine OK, in small amounts. Beer (which I do enjoy) has often been called "liquid bread", with good reason (IME) and my meter tells me that cider does my BG no good at all. I don't drink spirits so I can't comment on those. I suspect that port, sherry and other gloopy...

    Too low????

If it helps, I'm in the second month of control, with the same meds as you, and last week saw my lowest level of 4.3. Like you I was a bit worried but I felt fine so I decided not to worry. Since then there have been an increasing number of readings in the 5s and a few more in the 4s, BTW.

    Blood levels

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but, as you're T2, I understand it would be difficult to go too low. A month ago, I was 8-9 on waking and saw one peak of 14 just after I started testing. Now (after starting meds, weight loss and diet) it's around 6, or just below, first thing in the...

Re: Accu-chek Aviva Expert Doh! My apologies, in my haste to post a reply, I hadn't noticed the model in the title. Sorry .....

    Getting worried and nervous now

Nicola, If it helps, a little over 5 years ago, I had tests that came back the same - high ferritin. Doc was puzzled but eventually referred me to a specialist who tested for hemochromatosis (a genetic test that I was told was quite expensive and they didn't normally do unless they were...

    Nutritionist tomorrow

It's easy to be intimidated by professionals but they're trained to be impersonal about individual cases so, in reality, you can't really upset them if you're polite in your approach but firm in the stance you may then decide to take. The best ones will respect your position and ask you how...

    blood glucose tests

Buying a meter was (IMHO) the best thing I ever did. In trying to work out what diet is best for me, I'd feel totally in the dark without it and it also helps you track progress when you are getting it right.

    Leg and foot pain.

I don't think you'd be wasting their time. After all, their job is solely to help people like us, and the medical profession is always saying that problems are usually much easier to treat if they are caught early. I hope it goes well.

    help im so scared

Some people say the most thoughtless things. My boss's boss said to me 6 weeks ago (when I told him that I'd just been diagnosed T2): "Ah, so if you collapse on me I'll know to just wedge your mouth open and pop a sugar lump under your tongue!" Not: "Oh, good grief, how are you?" or "I know...

    Going Low not High

I can only give you my experiences on Metformin - as ever it's only your doc who can dole out the medical advice. I've been on it for about a month - 1/day for 1st week, 2 x 500mg per day since and it seemed to take a couple of weeks to kick in, with me seeing a BG of 14 in my first week and...

    Coming out of denial.

I've had a breadmaker for a long time now and it lets me decide what ingredients I want to use (usually 50% wholemeal /50% white flour for a decent wholemeal loaf that's not too leaden) - it's worth looking at for those who still feel able to eat bread. It'll do a very passable ryebread too...

So nervous about my diabetes checkup tomorrow..

Your team's there to monitor, help, encourage and advise but they recognise that it's always up to the individual in the end. It looks like you're actually doing quite well at this - by asking yourself some difficult questions, recognising where you're going wrong and sharing your thoughts with...

    Ill?

If it helps, NicolaAnne, there's some strange cold wotsits around, ATM. I don't often get them but one got hold of me late last month and wouldn't let go. Most peculiar it was. It started in my throat, a day or two later went up into my head and two days later disappeared. Two days after...

    Celeriac

At the same time you were doing that, I was making a 'Shepherds Pie', with mince layered alternately with plenty of sliced courgettes, topped off with mashed swede and celeriac. I tend to cook in quantity and stored the bulk of it, chilled or frozen, for another day.
