    Meter Readings

Yes, you're spot on, Colin, the cigarettes were a lot easier to quit. Mind you, I am finding 2013 a bit of a bummer. After quite a few false starts, I went cold turkey and gave up the fags in early May, in order to be healthier (totally off them still, but from experience early days ...)...

Lowered BG levels are giving new symptoms

Hi. I'm a T2 who was formally diagnosed and put on Metformin a few weeks ago and, after a couple of years of denying I might have been pre-diabetic, I'm now trying very hard to bring this thing under control. I've cut out all sugary foods and any added sugar, lowered my carb intake...

At my age is it worth it ?

It's obviously a personal choice but I think we often overlook the implications it can have others - family, friends, carers and NHS resources. Coincidentally, in the past few days I've heard 2 stories about people who 'gave up': One was in her 30s who decided she'd had enough of 'not doing...

    Iphone apps

Yes, IME, MySugr is a good app and you can start with the free version and upgrade if you want later. I've found that the graphs are good and the online support is excellent.

    Abscess's/boils

In relation to the original post: For what it's worth - and I'm not saying that it's necessarily the case here - there might be another, unrelated, reason for the problem. For some years now I've found I can't apply underarm deodorant (the type designed to stop you sweating) without getting...

    Meter Readings

I'm only a few weeks into it but, if it helps, I'm finding that my BG meter is a very good friend, helping me to work out what's going on after eating, exercise, etc. I'm also using the mySugr app on my i-Phone to keep track of the readings I'm taking.

    Pneumonia shot

I was offered a pneumonia shot when I turned up at my GP's for my 'flu jab, on Monday gone. The nurse told me it was 'for life', with no need for any booster in the future but, given this post, I'll now check this when I next go to the docs.

    Fed up with hospital

That's odd. With an HbA1c of 46, I've just been confirmed as diabetic (T2). When I began testing, immediately following that diagnosis a few weeks ago, my levels were yo-yoing between 4.2-14. A significant change of lifestyle and metformin now seems to have helped stabilise that, but I can't...

    Whey hey!!!!!

That typo sent the imagination running into overdrive. Mind you, it went perfectly with the title of the thread - 'specially if you're from Tyneside.

    Levels all over the place

IMHO, you should always seek medical advice if you feel that ill. If it helps, what you describe isn't something I've experienced. I haven't been diagnosed T2 for very long and I've been on Metformin and testing for 3 weeks. In that time, my highest glucose reading was 14 and the lowest 4.2...

The Best Thing Since Sliced Bread

I do like that one. In the same vein, but coming from an opposite tack, my lecturer (many years ago) had previously worked for a very large bread manufacturer. He told us that 'new, improved', meant that the chemists had found another way of fluffing-up the loaf because more CO2 was produced...

    To monitor or not

Hi, I got a monitor and it's helped me a lot by letting me understand a bit more about how this b****y disease affects me and which lifestyle changes are working for me and which ones aren't. It can be difficult not to be obsessive about it, however, and I'd guard against doing too much...

Another Newly Diagnosed diabetes 2 joins the club

Hi, Jess. This board is v good, if you take a little time to search through the archived threads or by entering key subjects/phrases in the search engine. I was put on Metformin 12 days ago, with the same instructions as you, and it's been fine so far, although some people have said they...

    Hi help please....

Hello, Susan, I'd second the exercise and lowering your carbs. It's not easy, but it's working for me. Good luck. Tom.

    Breakfast ideas

FWIW, rice crispies send mine through the roof, although I only found that out when I'd hit 14, 90 mins after eating them. I'm also finding it difficult to sort out something suitable for taking breakfast on the hoof. I don't recommend it (for the sake of those around you at that time in the...

    whats happening--advice needed

Re: I've highlighted (*....*)those of Mo's points that apply to me ....... My readings had started to vary quite wildly before I modified my lifestyle and started medication and I'm still learning how to bring it all under better control. Reading through the archived threads on this site and...
