    Good news delivered unenthusiastically

Just been through exactly the same as you. I thought standard derriere defence wording, but there is also the point that if they said something on the lines that all is wonderful, some people might stop doing the necessary to keep well, thinking its all over now.

    How were you told?

I went for my annual blood test for blood pressure medication, and a few days later a phone call from a doctor in the practise I had not seen before. She said she wanted me to have another test as my blood glucose was high, which I did. Then she called again and asked me to come and see her. I...

Newly Diagnosed - Doctor says Meds forever..

I noticed early on that any carbs for breakfast was not for me. Big spike every time! I also found that fruit is better for me in the middle of the day. Always worth trying altering times for various foods, it may be that something good for you can be eaten for one meal, but not another.

Today diabetes did not stop me

Its good to take time to think about the benefits of taking more care about everyday things. For me, simply eating only good stuff and not just shovelling in any old rubbish has meant losing over 4 stones in weight. We all know how hard dieting is, but this was effortless. Exercise has been much...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

My BG this morning was 5. I have had a cold for a few days and it had been around 6 for those days, but no higher than usual during the rest of the day. Nothing spectacular, but it does go to show even a minor infection can have some effects!

Modern Diabetes Treatment in an Ancient System

Hello and welcome. What I have gained from this forum, is the ideas needed to try out all sorts of things, and test and test again until I find out what works for me. The results have been good and thats what I wanted. The medical fraternity seem very fixated on advice that is nothing like what...

Why the Patient and Doctor Have Different Interests

Since I heard the comment that doctors treat symptoms, not causes of illness I have thought a lot about my interaction with them. Obviously individual patients and doctors vary, and there are time and cost constraints at play too. In my experience some doctors react badly and some well to a...

Is there a Stigma attached to your diabetes ? What is your experience.

I don't inject, so I can only comment on public testing and possibly leaving or refusing some foods when out. One of the few good things about getting older is I really don't give a monkeys what others think of me. Equally I do not try to upset others, and I do try to be discrete where...

T2 With Neuropathy , help Req

Mine is not too bad, I thought it was due to bad work boots and many hours standing on hard floors until diagnosed T2. Cold makes it worse, especially at night, and my Reynauds does not help in that regard either. It can take a while to warm up enough to get to sleep! Keeping feet warm, and...

Told not to get a blood glucose meter

When I was diagnosed, I was told not to test with a meter. Naturally, being me, I ignored that. When I returned to get the results of my second HbA1C test the doctor was amazed at my progress, and I pointed out it was only possible by testing and adjusting my diet. (the look on her face told its...

Carbs. When can I have some lol

Carbs are fast energy, which is what you seem to be thinking. Fine for most people, but we diabetics do not work like that! A lot of that sugar just ends up sloshing about in the blood unable to be of use. The LCHF diet makes more use of energy from fat. Experimentation is essential. I cannot go...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

5.4 which is usual for me. I have noticed it will go up a little if I don't do it straight away, but is back down again after my breakfast eggs.

Feeling hungry when bg is lower than 5.5

When I feel hungry, I have taken to checking my BG, and it is almost always low. Its a good hint it is time to eat. In fact it is comforting to know that there is a warning sign to look out for!

    Please please read me

What a terrible situation Nicky-2612. Thank you for posting. I realise you came here to give us a warning, but you are largely talking to the converted on here. The fact we are here shows we want to improve our situations. I think you can help your husband, and now he has had that shock, he is...

Pleased to see you are improving. I know from experience influenza can hang around a long time, especially if you are already run down. Onward and upward!

    Horrid thing on my leg

I was going to suggest E45 too. I see you have socks near the site, I would also suggest not wearing anything that is going to irritate and rub the area.

    Diabetes HELP!

You need to gather as much information as you can. I know from dealing with older relatives, they need to accept that you may be able to help them and that they will let you do that. Remain calm and suggest ways to help, many of us dislike change and disruption as we get older. Find out what he...

    Off my feet again...

The trouble with human nature is that while you go the extra mile, nobody else will bother. While you are laid up sick, someone else will have to do it. Give yourself a bit of that extra effort! Get well soon.
