    Was T1

Welcome to the forum. Being diabetic since you were 13 would suggest you were type I? What has happened in your life to turn that around?

    Diabetic review !!

That would be an interesting conversation with your diabetes nurse/doctor/specialist. Why are you recommending that I eat something that I am not eating at the moment, something that would cause my HbA1c to increase? I wonder what their reply would be. I feel very lucky and possibly privileged...

    Slacking big time!!!

I seem to have a different problem in that I can safely say that I don't crave carbs, just bread. Pasta, rice, potato, cake, biscuit, chocolate . . . . I have no interest whatsoever, but then the sweeter things never were a problem. May I ask, when craving carbs would a slice of bread satisfy...

Low carb wonders - I stopped nibbling my fingernails

If by LC substitute you mean something that is processed or manufactured that's the problem. Personally I don't eat any food that's been processed/manufactured except for tinned ratatouille and Quorn. That's interesting, when I started making cauliflower rice which I steam, the one thing I...

COVID-19: are you wearing a mask?

Sorry to hear that you've been through the wars, I hope that you are making a good recovery. When I hear people pontificating about what they refer to as something like a mild lower respiratory infection I wonder if they are in this world or another one. These problems have been known for a...

COVID-19: are you wearing a mask?

Start looking at the after effects of Covid. I might not die if I catch the virus from somebody who seems to think it's a breeze to overcome this virus, but death might be better than some of the after effects being reported and documented. Your statements don't seem to take that into consideration.

    Flu vaccination

Absolutely, as I have done for years. Booked mine through my local Boots for convenience, GP surgery will only do it on Saturdays.

COVID-19: are you wearing a mask?

Look where that's getting us. If those decisions only affected us that's fair enough, but they don't, that decision not to wear a mask affects everybody around us. There a alternatives to masks and I've met several people wearing visors. Might not be as good as a mask, but it's a start. Agree on...

The other side of the coin.

You need to look at the Kreb cycle to see how glucose with the help of oxygen generates ATP for muscle contractions. Skeletal muscle of diabetic patients has a reduced capacity to increase ATP production with high insulin levels. So, there's several things in the mix when looking at muscle health.

What are people thinking about a second lockdown?

Although originally I wasn't worried I did find that the way data is presented on TV, it's becomes very worrying. If I just look at Bucks it's not so bad, we don't seem to have cities large enough to be problematic areas except maybe Milton Keynes. I've now been back to the MS Centre for three...

    New diabetic diagnosis

Sorry to hear about the diagnosis but many have a similar experience to yours when it comes to statins. As Jo says Metformin and statins are a routine first prescription for newly diagnosed type IIs. We all take different routes when first diagnosed but something the majority do is cut down on...

What are people thinking about a second lockdown?

I ensured staying six feet away from someone in a Tesco pharmacy queue because he wasn't wearing a mask (his 3 kids were) and I got some grief from him when I explained to people 'pushing in' why I was 6 feet back. I'm not convinced that someone being exempt for whatever legitimate reason makes...

Are You smarter than a doctor

Being smart is something that's grown and cultivated, often by being curious enough to seek out new information and by recognising what you don't already know. Being smart is the ability to put ideas together, and create solutions to problems. Not a word I'm comfortable with, I'd be too...

    T1 or T2

May I suggest that care is taken when discussing reversing diabetes. I think if any type II can eat the way they used to eat and more specifically, eat the same amount of carbohydrate that they used to eat, and have BG levels in what is considered to be the normal range, then that is reversal.
  15. DavidGrahamJones

    Gluco Meters

It is my opinion that some health workers follow the party line and do not recommend using a BG meter and therefore don't have to refuse test strip prescriptions for type IIs. My DN is different, she will recommend testing, but can't prescribe test strips. It's down to money at the end of the...

    In remission...

You're just going to have to be careful. If you are achieving those numbers while taking something like Gliclazide then they will increase when you stop taking gliclazide. Gliclazide is one of those drugs that work by making the pancreas produce more insulin. I'm surprised and envious that you...

    NFI Diet. Experiences?

It's worth knowing how your pancreas is doing, in my opinion. GPs might have other ideas because it all costs money and I don't think type IIs are regularly sent for a c-peptide so it's good that you've had extensive checkups including a c-pep. My results have always been in the normal range...

    C peptide

This URL might help in the meantime, but your medical advisor is the best person to explain things. https://www.exeterlaboratory.com/test/c-peptide-plasma/

COVID the real numbers? Not all doom and gloom.

Sorry, I forgot to attach the report that I was referring to. It's probably not important.

COVID the real numbers? Not all doom and gloom.

This report, dated May 20th, suggests that dead virus fragments are causing COVID-19 reinfection false positives. Definitely a tricky little so and so.
