    Birthday Cake

Thank you very much! Sounds delicious. I shall now look into the feasibility of baking this :)

    Birthday Cake

Tomorrow is my first birthday since I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. My little one will certainly expect a cake, and will probably force feed it to me. Any suggestions? I'd rather not eat any carbs or sugar.

Once A Diabetic, Always A Diabetic?

Well, this is the question, isn't it? Professor Taylor seems to think that excess fat in the liver and pancreas cause the metabolic problems. 'Fat' in Professor Taylor's world actually means 'too much fat in the liver or pancreas' whatever your BMI. Weight loss alone reverses diabetes, according...

Once A Diabetic, Always A Diabetic?

It took me a long time, too. I had pretty much convinced myself that I was before making an appointment, but somehow it was still a shock when the doctor told me my HbA1c result and said I was diabetic. And then she said, 'Now let's check your blood pressure ...'.

Once A Diabetic, Always A Diabetic?

I was thinking about this. How about transnormoglycaemic (TNG) for those who have had a transplant?

Type 2s: What have you eaten today?

Oh, the mushrooms are a good idea - I think I'll try that.

Once A Diabetic, Always A Diabetic?

Yes, this is something I wondered, too. In fact, I wonder if something similar may have happened to me. I had blood tests a little over two years ago which showed a fasting blood sugar which I think was borderline diabetic. I can't remember the number, I'm afraid, and I wasn't symptomatic, but...

Once A Diabetic, Always A Diabetic?

Yes, both his shake-based diet, and his 'slower standard' (half your portion sizes, use a smaller plate etc.) are exactly the kind of diet which come with a very high risk of failure. I agree, based on what I have read so far, that Professor Taylor's fatty pancreas hypothesis seems very...

Thank you for your answers. Good luck with getting your bg back down again.

Once A Diabetic, Always A Diabetic?

True - when Professor Taylor says 'fat', maybe he should consider adding the words 'around the pancreas' :) It could be the new 'big bones' e.g. 'I'm not diabetic, I'm just fat around the pancreas'.

Once A Diabetic, Always A Diabetic?

Thanks to Resurgam and Guzzler for their answers. The reason I asked was because I saw in Professor Roy Taylor's guidelines on reversing diabetes (I give the link, though I am sure the document is well-known to most here)...

Once A Diabetic, Always A Diabetic?

Thank you for reminding me. It had slipped my mind that this is a 'mixed' forum.

Once A Diabetic, Always A Diabetic?

Can one become a former diabetic? Are the bodies of people who have had a diagnosis of diabetes, but then lose weight and return to normal levels of blood glucose and insulin sensitivity still different from those who have never been diabetic? Or another way: is a diabetic merely a person who...

    Low Carb Recipes

It's not a creamy cheese sauce and might not work for all purposes, but I sometimes fry a couple of pork chops in a butter/olive oil mix then add directly to the pan: a spoonful of Dijon mustard, a big grate of cheese, crushed garlic, salt and pepper, chili flakes, fresh chopped coriander. Then...

    The Usual Story ...

I'm somewhat averse to the monitoring, and am absolutely not the kind of person who is fond (or even capable) of maintaining accurate spreadsheets. But I know I need to consider this. My plan was simply to continue with the LCHF, weight loss and exercise and see what the next HbA1C result says...

Type 2s: What have you eaten today?

A ribeye steak fried in a large amount of butter and olive oil. A fried egg cooked in the same fat. The fat. A handful of walnuts. Two almonds. You must excuse me now, the kettle has just boiled. UPDATE!!! A hunk of mature Red Leicester while waiting for my tea to brew. I can't believe you can...

Got Rid Of Diabetes Type 2 - This Is How

Chicken, bacon and avocado salad sounds perfect for a diabetic. Don't be shy about the generous application of a good quality full-fat mayonnaise, either. And I think you can have a glass (or two) of dry wine. At least, it works for me ...

I suppose you were inspired by Shawn Baker? I must say he looks well on his carnivore diet.

    The Usual Story ...

Yes, about two weeks ago I started doing this, after reading a debunking of the 'breakfast is the most important meal of the day' myth. (Not that I've ever been that bothered about breakfast). I try to fast 18 hours and eat in a 6 hour window, but this is not always compatible with my lifestyle...
