    Patient UK advice

Thank you. It's 4 months actually. Mid-October to mid-February. ☺ I'm surprised by how well it's gone. I wonder if I will have diminishing returns and will have to adjust further. My goal is a normal glucose level AND increased insulin sensitivity. The latter has never been tested. I've been...

Warning signs of diabetic neuropathy in my feet?

For years, diabetic nurse just checked for sensation in my feet and dismissed my reports of tingling, also claw toes in one foot. I was refused referral to a podiatrist, even after I was turned away for a pedicure because they said my big toe was infected. Neither would my GP treat me for it...

    Patient UK advice

I guess people respond differently because l am on a more or less Mediterranean diet - not specially trying to lose weight but to lower my A1c. I am also intermittent fasting 16/8 -ish, with minimal snacking. I went from A1c 88 in October to 50 recently. I eat modest amounts of pasta (white)...

    Abbotts Lifestyle Libre 2

I tried the tips, including the sides of my finger tips and couldn't get enough blood and kept getting error messages. I was very naive about controlling diabetes until urgent surgery was cancelled in October because my A1c was 88. I've been on a quick learning curve. My A1c was 50 mid February...

    Abbotts Lifestyle Libre 2

I've been on a Freestyle libre 2 plus for 11 days. I can't check it against finger prick, as I didn't get the hang of it, so worry about reports of inaccuracy. I know readings are delayed compared with finger prick, but if you take that into account, by how much is it inaccurate, so that I can...

Type 2D with CGM. Glucose showing 3.9. Low for some time. Do I have to do anything?

Thank you. I just saw your reply. I don't have a meter. I wasn't leaning on the sensor or lying down, just noticed I kept getting an alert sign and downward pointing arrow. So I decided to eat some biscuits with sugar, even though I'm T2 and hypos aren't supposed to happen, and then I had an...

Type 2D with CGM. Glucose showing 3.9. Low for some time. Do I have to do anything?

    On 3 x metformin 500 and dapagliflozin 5 mg.

Newbie with Insulin Resistance, on the cusp of being full T2D and having huge diabetic Neuropathy symptoms

I was a thin peep when diagnosed with T2D. As far as I recall, I didn't have any symptoms apart from tiredness, which I attributed to work and jetlag. In those days, the advice was to cut out sugar and have low-fat frequent small meals with carbs. I was put onto Metformin, and got worse and...

Type 1 Having surgery if you have diabetes (T1)

Hi, I was also refused surgery because my A1c was too high (88). This was just a couple of days before essential surgery was to take place and they hadn't tested it earlier, when I was waiting, so I was gutted. I was told the danger is sepsis, which I understand, and the cut-off point for...

    Is FreeStyle Libre 2 accurate?

Thanks. Is that to say if the reading is, say 5.7 mmol/L, it could be 7.7 or 3.7? Or even a greater disparity? That's huge. I do understand there's a delay, though, compared with the finger prick.

    BS levels and infection

No advice, just hope you get better quickly. I had urgent major surgery postponed because my high A1c meant risk of sepsis. I bought it down - to circa 44 to 50 - which the surgeon accepts, but now you have me worried that any diabetes poses a risk. All the best to you.

    Type 2 Metfor IP 500mg

Extended release tablets are marked 'SR' - 'slow release' - on the packet. I use them after the regular tablets didn't agree with me.

    Feeling very low again

I am so sorry and hope your problems get resolved. Just to say when I was put on Metformin, I also reacted very poorly. I was switched to Metformin Slow Release, which was much better. Perhaps something to discuss with your doctor. All the best. x

    Is FreeStyle Libre 2 accurate?

First full day with Freestyle Libre 2 Plus, or any monitor. I was excited like having a new puppy. At last can identify specifically which foods are causing spikes. I was surprised that one potato waffle with a salad didn't. But I noted blood glucose was high overnight when I had poor sleep. But...

I like the Diablo coconut cookies, in moderation. No bad side effects. I especially like Ricola herbal sweets with stevia.

Freezing bread then toasting it to lower GI?

Here is an update to my post asking if freezing bread then toasting it lowers its GI. By no means my suggestion on what others should do, and I still don't have a glucose monitor, so I can't definitively say how I react to frozen then toasted sourdough bread. BUT my HbA1c result today is...

Freezing bread then toasting it to lower GI?

I found your 'freeze it, toast it, then don't eat it' reply slightly amusing, but a little more than slightly hostile. This is meant to be a LOW carb discussion and you sounded like the NO carb police. I don't want to go on a carnivore diet for various reasons, therefore must take carb counting...

Freezing bread then toasting it to lower GI?

I've read that freezing bread then toasting it lowers its GI. I don't yet have a glucose monitor to test its effect, and would appreciate feedback from anyone who's tried it. I'm working on reducing my carbs and A1c on 16/8 intermittent fasting, but not inclined to go very low or carb free. So...

    A1c and medication

When my A1c was 88, my GP wanted to increase Metformin to 2 times two 500 tablets per day. I didn't want to, as that was the max, according to Google search, so she added dapagliflazin to my 3 Metformin per day. It didn't bring down my A1c. What did was an emergency, which caused me to look...
