    Totally freaked out

Oh Andy, that's so sad, we can't have you feeling like that, we need to all get our heads together and at least sort out some nice food for you, even if we can't immediately fix the figures! I don't like fish either (apart from battered from the chip shop which unfortunately does spike me). My...

    "Newcastle" Diet

Re: "Newcastle" Diet Wow, Frances, I'm so impressed at your willpower! I wish you all the very best on your diet and will be watching with interest. Good luck with the sugars, and with your mood! Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    food

Your before meal figures are very good and would suggest your diabetes is in quite an early stage. However, given how good the pre-meal figures are, the post meal ones are rather high. This would suggest that you are having too many carbohydrates in your meals at the moment. Ideally, it would be...

    What have you eaten today?

Susie this sounds lovely! Do you do bechamel with ground almonds too? Do you know what the exact recipe is (or Sam, can you tell me?) Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    Greek yogurt

Ooh I'm going to try that! Perhaps when the weather is a bit better ;) Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    Greek yogurt

Oh, that's the kind I use, it's the goji berry one. Didn't realize there were"plainer" kinds. I'll stick with it because I actually quite like it. Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    What have you eaten today?

Love moussaka! Did you have any sort of version of bechamel sauce in it? And presumably the potatoes can be substituted with aubergines on their own? Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    Greek yogurt

Blueberries, raspberries or pomegranate seeds ( but always measured out, not just randomly chucked in). Flax seed. And, guilty of a sweet tooth here, which I'm trying to curb, a little Da Vinci white chocolate sugar free syrup. (But I do like it without that too, honest!) Sent from the...

Introduce Yourself: Answer Some Personal Questions

I'm not an expert in type 1 at all, I'm type 2, but isn't there a thing shortly after diagnosis called a honeymoon period where insulin requirements (injected) are much lower? And then gradually that ends and you have to do proper, regular injections? I'm sure a person with type 1 will be along...

    Help/Blood Levels

Hi Jeanette, tell us a little about your diet and what you eat and drink on an average day :) Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    cholesterol

Yes, I suppose if it includes over 7 then hopefully I won't be in that group for long. I was 8.0 on the test that diagnosed me, and on a repeat test seven days after I found out and had cut carbs down to 100g it was 7.5. So if seven days of only moderately low carbing already bought it down then...

    Help/Blood Levels

Frances, you're doing really well! You've brought your sugars, especially your fasting sugars, down lots in just a week! Try not to be anxious (easy to say, I know!) and just keep plugging away at the low carbs. Have you been to the thread "What I've eaten today"? That should give you lots of...

    Gp no help!

Sue, did you know that being unwell (infection etc) can raise your blood sugars? Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    cholesterol

Whoa, that is SCARY! my hba1c was 8 when I was diagnosed - that's more than seven times the risk! Wow. Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    Need to understand.

Definitely the apple! I can't touch apples. Greek full fat yoghurt will be great. You have to get into the mindset that it is carbs you are cutting back on, not fat. The fat in the yoghurt will keep you nicely full and stop you craving carbs mid morning. You're doing fine, it's early days...

    Polyols

Yes, that's similar to the sort of thing it says on my packet of sweets. And they also have calories, about 3 calories each. I suppose I'm rationalizing that three calories worth of carbs can't be too bad! (Presumably as there's four calories in 1g carbs, then if the sweets are three calories...

    What have you eaten today?

Grace, I posted a similar thread about bizarre readings one after the other, but they were nothing like as bizarre as that! (I think it was 7.8,7.0,8.0,5.9). It freaks me out a bit that things like that can happen, because it makes me think, can we trust our meters at all? I mean, which of those...

    Diabetic Friendly take-away

I love lentil Dahl. I've always been a bit wary because of the carbs in the lentils but I think I will maybe try some and test and see. Sent from the Diabetes Forum App
